Z68a -d3h - b3 with GTX 760 Problem
« on: January 17, 2014, 07:01:00 pm »
I recently bought a new GTX 760. I had previously has an AMD radeon 6850. When I installed it I installed all drivers correctly (do not tell me to install driver). I have a problem where everything leaves trails or shadows when I move them. For example if I move a window on the desktop the icons or pictures or letters leave a shadow or trail effect. Another way of identifying the problem is while im watching something on my second screen such as a youtube video, when I move windows around they move at like 5 frames per second. Also if I change the windows theme to windows basic everything trails a lot more as if my drivers are not installed. Games run fine in terms of frames per second however the edges seem like they are not as smooth as they should be. I thought this may have been a driver conflict due to me having an amd gpu before but it is most definitely NOT as I just reformated my PC and the problem still persists even though the only things installed are chipset drivers and the latests nvidia drivers. I really do not know what to do anymore. I have searched so much and this is definitely a problem lying between my motherboard and gpu. Everyone on the internet says PCI 3.0 graphics cards work on PCI 2.0 motherboards... However a forum moderator told me there have been many issues with gigabyte motherboards and 3.0 cards.

Motherboard = Z68a-D3H-B3 (rev 1.0)
GPU = Asus GTX 760
Power supply = corsair 650w
Processor = i5 - 2500k
RAM = 8gb corsair

I run windows 7 64 bit SP1.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I seriously dont know what to do anymore.

Thank you

Have you tried to update the bios to F13. Don't go any higher too. You think you have problems now don't do the UFEI bios.

Yes the Mod was right. There is couple of thing that are hurting you. Cpu & the MB don't support 3.0. Even if you update the bios I can't say that will help.

Now if you had the 1.3 MB and with Ivory bridge CPU you would be all set. But they only did that on that board too. You could try a Ivory bridge but again I can't say that will help.

Like they say you are stuck behind a rock and hard place what you do next.

I am currently using the F13 BIOS and have not gone higher. Everywhere I have checked o nthe internet, peopel say that a 3.0 pci graphics card should work in a 2.0 slot as it downgrades. Why is this such an issue with gigabyte? I also sent a message to gigabyte support and they tried to replicate the issue by putting the same pieces of hardware together. They posted screenshots, they used the same motherboard, the same cpu and the same processor. They said they could not replicate the issue, which to me soudns really weird. They told me to install OS again and get latest drivers, bla bla. But I have done all those things. This problem is killing me...

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it!

One thing you can try is right click on my computer / properties / advanced system settings / settings / change it to "adjust for best performance".

It will change the desktop but just right click the screen / personalize / than change it back to the Aero themes that you had.

Mine would not boot at all, I'm forced to use the x4 slot.. if it can help you.

I have told to the Gigabyte support team that I have the rev1 board, and they are not able to replicate my problem with a 1.3 board. They just tell me today that there is no need to try to replicate on a rev1 board as this is the same thing. And I read everywhere that it is a rev1 bug. If gigabyte doesnt want to help hundred of client fooled by this "pay now for a rev1 (beta board?) that will not work", maybe they dont need us to buy their product anymore :(

This is the response i got from gigabyte support.

Dear Sir,

We’ve tested this again with two different version of GTX760, N760OC-2GD and N760OC-4GD under windows basic mode, we still can’t duplicate your issue on Z68A-D3H-B3 Rev1.0 (see attached image). Have you try replacing your GTX760? It seems a single VGA card issue.

If the issue still remains, please try UEFI BIOS from our website. Thanks.

This however is NOT a VGA card issue. As I have the same problem on 2 gigabyte motherboard PCs at work.

VAPP, are you using the same setup as me?

Hi matter, videocard aside my config look like yours

using x4 is a "workaround" but have you tried ?

They suggest you to go UEFI on the motherboard ? Do you think they are UEFI while testing in their lab ?

config:
Motherboard = Z68ma-D3H-B3 (rev 1.0) bios F10
GPU = gigabyte r7 260x 2go OC
Power supply = antec 750w
Processor = i5 - 2500k
RAM = 8gb corsair
OS = windows 7 64 bit SP1.

I tried using x4. That didnt help. Seems the only way to fix my problem is to spend another 300 pounds on a new processor and motherboard.. All this because my previous gpu fan failed ><
