XEON compatibility with GA-EX58-UD4P

Could someone confirm/deny if the GA-EX58-UD4P motherboard that I have is compatible with the X56xx, L56xx, or E56xx, etc line of Xeon CPUs?  Those CPUs do not appear on the Gigabyte support list for that board but I've found some indications that they might work.  Gigabyte's official CPU support list only shows X55xx, L55xx, and E55xx.  I was hoping to buy a used 6 core chip and overclock it to replace the i920 that I have in there now running at 3.8GHz.  Not sure if it is worth paying the $$$$ to upgrade to a Haswell yet.

Would there be a BIOS flash required?  I'm presently running, F14p, which is the latest Beta BIOS on the gigabyte site.

Myself if it isn't on support list it is a crap shoot. Might work most likely wont.  I have had decent luck with a few unsupported chips but it was only one step from one that was supported and it was one step up. Now if it doesn't work it either wont boot or will only run at 800 MGHTZ.

I found a guy with the same motherboard and a X5670 in his signature.... sent him a PM, hoping that he might confirm.  I also found another post by someone who claimed he had one of the X56xx processors working on this mobo, but he was not able overclock it at all.  He tried a different mobo and it OCed great.  :/  I think I might take the chance.  If I can get another year out of this setup because of it it will have been money decently spent.  If not, then I'll take it as a lesson in chance.

I'm just asking I have check Intel and two other sites and I can't find a X5870 the highest one I can find is a X5690.

I have run the 1366, 2011, 4 cores. I have run the 2011 6 core. I have at this time a 2011 v3 6 core. I don't overclock too.

I have been do this for over 30 years. To me at what point. Do you really going to see a change. I when from the 1366 to the 2011 I didn't really see a change.

Then I went from the 4 core to a 6 core really nothing. I went from the 2011 6 core to the 2011 v3 6 core really no change.

So like you said is it really worth going to newer CPU. It is really in how you use you computer too. To me it is more of a selling point than anything or bragging rights.

The X58xx was a typo on my part... I went back and corrected it to X56xx but you must have read the post when it was still incorrect.  I'm going to give the X5670 or lower a shot, the price of the processors starts going up exponentially above that model.  I still didn't get a PM back from the guy with that processor in his signature but I figure if it doesn't work, I'll just sell it back on eBay.  Yes, I'm really hoping to see an improvement in performance.  Will be bummed if I do not but I can relate to what you wrote.  I guess it depends on what programs you're running.

Well the X5670 does work... but only at stock speeds.  Haven't been able to get it to OC at all... just fails to POST.
