780 TI doesn't boot up with GA z77x-d3h
« on: February 14, 2014, 01:48:45 am »
Hi All ,

I have upgraded my GPU with 780 TI
my Motherboard is  z77x-d3h and old GPU was 560 TI , they were working fine with no issues
When I installed the new 780 TI , the machine wasn't POSTing  , it just stucks with GigaByte Splash screen for 30-40 seconds , then goes to black screen ,
my firmware was down-level , found a fix @ version F14  Improve VGA compatibility , I updated to the latest F18i     " it has a new Splash screen  "
it worked for 2 days , then When I turned on my PC again , it shut it self down , turn back on again , it went back to the old splash screen , " backup BIOS " . I shut down the machine , disconnected the GPU and re-seated it .,it worked and booted with the Primary BIOS
2 days later the same issue happened again , so I searched found this version is a beta version :
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4144#bios

so I updated to the most non-beta version F16 , it worked again for 2 days , when I tried to turn it back on , I had the same exact issue , it shut itself down , turned back on , it went to the backup , re-seated the card , booted fine with no issues

after another 2 days , I had same exact problem , can any one suggests what should I do ?? , shall I downgrade to F14
shall I change something on BIOS settings ? do I have a bad GPU / motherboard or is it just a firmware issue ?

my full configuration :
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
Nvidia 780 TI
intel i5-2500k 3.30ghz
PSU thermaltake 550w

This might not have anything to do with or it might. That CPU doesn't support 3.0 cards. I know that it should work, but that is where I would start.

X299X Aorus Master, i9-9940x-3.30Ghz, 64gb G-Skill DDR4-2400, MSI RTX-3070 8GB, Cooler Master case, Thermal-take PSU 850w, 1-M2-NMVe SSD-512gb, 3-Pny 1TB SSD, 2-WD Raptors 1TB, Win 10 pro 64bit, Asus 35" 144Mhz Monitor.

ahmedesam,
What OS are you running?
Are you attempting to run with Secure Boot enabled in BIOS?

If secure Boot option is present and enabled (Win8), you might need to request a new firmware for the card. (Not MB BIOS) FW for the card itself.  If its EVGA you're probably good.  If not....   :(

I think the newer high end cards come with a dual BIOS??

The card is capable of working with your ivybridge processor, as it is backwards compatible and will run at PCIe 2.0 with this CPU.  My GTX660 FTW is 3.0 running at 2.0 with my i7 ivy.....  but I have more power than you. TX850w

Card Requirements

Minimum of a 600 Watt power supply.

(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 42 Amps.)

An available 6-pin PCI-E power connector and an available 8 pin PCI-E power connector

Total Power Draw : 250 Watts

You may want to verify what your rails are putting out .  Possible 42 Amp draw...  Confirm your thermaltake is up to this.

Just some things to consider.  ;)

@shadowsports

That CPU he is running is a sandy bridge and doesn't support 3.0 cards. The funny part is why does it run just for two days.

He should try and leave it on all the time. He said if he pulls the card and puts it back in. It will run again for 2 days.

The thing is when he pulls the card and puts it back in. It is making a good contact. Is it the card or is it the slot that is the problem?

More likely it is the slot that needs to be clean. I don't know if he can get some contact cleaner and try that.

Dave,
Typo on my part.  I have a sandybridge in my rig.  My GTX660 is PCIe 3.0 running at 2.0 with my i7 sandybridge.  The card is backwards compatible to 2.0 spec.  Sorry for my typing error.

No problem there and I think he has connection problem more than anything.
