F2A88XM-D3H failing to POST / display BIOS
« on: February 13, 2014, 10:21:49 am »
Hi everyone, I have the above board with an A8-6600k CPU. Its a new build and the spec includes 2x 2gb Corasiar ballisk 1600mhz, 500w power supply, 120gb SSD Samsung 840 and 2tb Seageate barraucuda. Optional extra of HD6450 PCI card but I intend to use the onboard video where possible. It is mostly a media PC so not requireing high end graphics.

When I built the system and powered on the fans ran, the hard drives spun up and the optical drives also recived power. So no fault with the PSU. The board powers the fans too. But the board doesn't output a video signal through its on board DVI. I installed the above video card and used its HDMI and the same result.

I stripped it back to just the board, RAM and CPU only and it powers up but still no video output, either through on board graphics, or when reinstalling the graphics card.

Looking on line gives me three options
- reset the CMOS (have to try that later, I don't have the board in front of me)
- update the bios (its Rev 3 on the board, but heard some of them are shipping with OOD bios)
-RMA the board the board

How can I update the BIOS when I don't even have a screen to do this with? I'm thinking this is my best option before I RMA it. Any thoughts always welcome.

Thanks.

first of all, try resetting CMOS, if that doesn't solve it, try different RAM if possible.

Remake the system with minimum setup ,on a cardboard ,out of the box ,in case any shorts occur.

So test the  APU with the cooler installed properly  ,PSU ,one stick of RAM and monitor connected.

The APU does not support the convertor you find with video cards usually ,the  DVI to VGA.

Make sure you try all outputs.

There is no need of an extra video card.

I  say RMA if this doesn t do anything..By now the BIOS should of been the proper one.The box sticker has the BIOS revision installed on it ,usually.Check to see if it supports the APU.

Over & Out !

AMD FX (APU-s included) users should install - KB2645594 & KB2646060 under Windows 7

1.ASUS Sabertooth 990FX 2.0 + FX 6300 + H60
2.MSI A88X-G41 PC Mate + A8 5600K + Hyper TX 2
3.Gigabyte F2A75-D3H + A4 5300
4.ASUS AM1M-A + Athlon 5150

Hi and thanks for the reply.

Its worse than I thought. After going through it all again and reading the manual, I deceded to RMA myself. Reason? Failure to connect the 8 pin power socket near teh CPU. Didn't realise this was a) there, and b) the PSU has a 6 pin to 4 pin wire, so head to buy the adaptor from Maplins (in the uk) for all of £3.

Problem solved! Now just getting the bios settings right for optmised settings. (added 4gb extra as it kept running low when web browsing).

Thanks again.
