GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 : EFI boot from USB
« on: July 19, 2016, 07:35:19 pm »
Hello.

I'm new user of GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 motherboard and I've problem with install Windows 10 in EFI boot mode. I want to install it on SSD 120GB and make there GPT partition.

I have Windows 10 made by Rufus on USB pendrive (it's prepared for GPT install).

This motherboard support Hybrid EFI.

How I can do it properly? Is it make booting up computer a little bit shorter?

Thanks in advance,
Regards

On these boards the best you might get is about 20 to 25 sec on boot. Yes the board is EFI but not real UEFI. The difference between MBR vs GPT on speed isn't really going to help. MBR vs GPT isn't in speed, it is that GPT supports larger partition.

This form the book:
"Set this item to EFI if you want to install the operating system to a hard drive larger than 2.2 TB. Make sure the operating system to be installed supports booting from a GPT partition."

Is there option for EFI USB by the book it doesn't show that.

Thanks for reply.

You're right, unfortunately in manual's only a few words about this option.

It's a little bit wierd UD3 (lower level) has upgrade to UEFI but UD7 (the highest model in that time) haven't update to UEFI...

I have had a few of these series boards all you can do is a clean install and see what happens. If you are using a SSD just make sure you have it set to AHCI on the sata control not IDE or Raid. For a older board it will boot fast for that type of board.

One other thing when you get to where is ask you to do a upgrade or custom. Do the custom and delete all partition. Then click on new and OK it will setup the partition. At that point it might make it GPT too.

OK, thanks for advice.

Do you know which other BIOS settings can improve speed up time?

Advanced BIOS Features

Quick Boot
Enables or disables the quick boot function to speed up the system boot-up process to shorten the waiting time for entering the operating system and to deliver greater efficiency for daily use. The settings
here synchronize with the settings of the SMART QuickBoot of Smart 6™. (Default: Disabled)

You can check this one and play around with it but might not make a difference.

Standard CMOS Features

Halt On
Allows you to determine whether the system will stop for an error during the POST.
All Errors Whenever the BIOS detects a non-fatal error the system boot will stop.
No Errors The system boot will not stop for any error.
All, But Keyboard The system boot will not stop for a keyboard error but stop for all other errors. (Default)
