Please help !!! Strangest problem I have ever seen

Building a system with a GA-Z77X-UD3H

Windows 7 64bit

Had system working fine.   Buttoned everything up and brought system back up and the mouse doesn't work.

Now here is the strange part !    The mouse will work in everything but windows.
And before you say its a driver issue .. NO Version of windows works.    When I boot a Linux disk everything works fine
but when I boot ANY version of Windows the mouse doesn't work.

The mouse works in bios mode,  it works with linux boot disks,  but will NOT work in any windows.

Even when trying to reinstall windows .. it will NOT work on the initial install screens !!!!

Booting a repair cd where it loads a form of MINI XP .. no mouse.

I have played with the bios settings .. including loading safe defaults .. but no go.

what is any version of windows doing that noting else does.

Thanks
Mike A

Have you tried to boot without the mouse connected. Then plug it in to see if windows see it.

The only other thing try a different mouse. I understand what you are saying. It should work no matter how it is connected.

Don't feel bad I have AMD computer that I have problem where I can't scroll down. I been to lazy to finger it out too.

I'll get to it one of these days. It will be something really stupid like the keyboard. That has a key that is doing it.

lol .. yea .. when you think you have seen it all.

Ok .. here is what is happening.   There are 6 usb ports on the back.

All of them work fine on everything but windows.

The bottom two,  work ok with windows and everything else.

So .. what it amounts to .. is that only two of the six will work
with windows.

I can at least continue on with that .. but .. it is still a huge mystery.

These are all USB3 ports and it prob has something to do with that.

Thanks a lot for the help .. but ..  remember this so that
when some says that some ports are windows compatible and some
are not ..  it can be true  ( even if it is caused by a problem of some type )

In Peripherals try and mess around with some of the settings. People in the past have had problems with the USB ports on the Z87 series boards.

xHCI Mode (Intel Z77 Chipset)
Allows you to determine the operating mode for the xHCI controller in OS.

Mike,
What dmdilks stated is 100% correct.

In addition, specific to your board:
Chipset: 1.Up to 4 USB 3.0/2.0 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 2 ports available through the internal USB header)
 * In Windows XP, the Intel USB 3.0 ports can support up to USB 2.0 transfer speed.
2.Up to 6 USB 2.0/1.1 ports (available through the internal USB headers)
VIA VL800 chip: 1.Up to 4 USB 3.0/2.0 ports on the back panel
* Due to a Windows 7 limitation, please connect your USB device(s) to the Intel controlled USB port(s) (located below the RJ-45 LAN port) before the VIA USB 3.0 controller driver is installed.

Ultimately, the MB manufacturer can decide how support is implemented.
