GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 do not recognize GV-R726XOC-2GD on x16 slot.
« on: January 21, 2014, 10:57:27 pm »
Hi,

My GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3(rev1.0) do not recognize my new GV-R726XOC-2GD on x16 slot.

A ticket is opened at Gigabyte Support, but even there is hundred of people having the same problem, it seem that there is no cross-reference procedure in the support team and my case is handled like I'm the first to encounter this. So here I am.

The motherboard have the Bios F10
No O/C, No other PCI card
the x16 slot recognize anything I put in but my Gigabyte 260x..
My 260x work in any slot but the x16
the 260x have the Bios 015.040.000.000.000000

After reading too much thread describing the same x-file problem I'm getting confused, some talk about UEFI or Legacy rom.. some have the chance to have BETA bios to try, if this a chance..  I doubt that my old micro-ATX will get a newer Bios after F10 and I like this motherboard. I like Gigabyte and want to keep my stuff, even if I had plenty of money to throw I cannot find other micro-ATX motherboard having 6 SATA / 4-DDR / Crossfire posibility, and Gigabyte label..

So, should I jump to UEFI unsupported Bios ?

Going to the UEFI might, but more likely it will not. What CPU do you have? If it is a sandy bridge that CPU doesn't support 3.0.

If you like that board try and find a 1.3 version and put a ivory bridge in. The 1.3 with that CPU will support the that card.

Other than that I don't know what to tell you. A lot of the Z68 boards are having some kind of problem with the 3.0 cards.

So, I have the Gigabyte PCIe3.0 bug, it seem to appear on any (rev1) Gigabyte Z68 Motherboard with a SandyBridge processor. Our motherboard can handle a big 2.0 videocard on the x16, or a big 3.0 videocard  .. on the x4... then it will run down 2.0... but it cannot be forced to run at 2.0 on the x16.. as a 2.0 videocard will do good..

THEN, it is well known, the x16 slot CAN run a 2.0 card, it is a fact, it is clear, (I tested it to be sure).
AND, as a interesting fact, the videocard, the brand new 3.0, CAN run in 2.0 mode on the x4 slot, when it got no choice.

NOW, all of us in trouble just need one thing, 2 free choices :
- Flash the Videocard to it to be recognized as a 2.0 card by the faulty motherboard
- Get an option in the Bios to force it TO STAY in 2.0 if we have a SandyBridge as it seem well known it will never work at 3.0 anyway

Somewhere at Gigabyte, someone can handle that, but the support team seem unable to escalate this issue to te right person. My motherboard is a Gigabyte, my new R7 is a Gigabyte, my next R7 (crossfire) will be a Gigabyte, just need someone who listen to me.

I am new here, but can I ask if there is someone here who actually work at Gigabyte ?

I hate to have to tell you this, but you are trying to run a new technology UEFI video card on a old technology legacy MB.

When the board came out it only Supports for LGA1155 2nd Generation Intel Core Processors. Yes they did some updates and got it to run 3rd Generation CPU's.

The board isn't at fault, like I said you dealing with new technology on a old technology legacy MB. The only thing you can try is the UEFI bios.

Here a link on how this guy did it. http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,13818.0.html

Plus one other thing don't you think with a lot of people trying to do this. On the 1.0 version board they would have made a bios for this problem.

I think that is why they did a 1.3 version board so you could run the 3.0 cards. You can try Gigabyte but more likely they are not going to fix this.

I would like to have some official info showing if this videocard is UEFI or not, for now it is not clear.

In any case, all official info and gigabyte support point that the motherboard can support the 3.0 videocard, in 2.0 mode, in rev1.0 / 1.3, when used with sandybridge cpu, and it work well : GPUz tell me PCI-E 3.0 x16 @ x4 2.0 and it work fine. I just cannot go Crossfire and prefer to wait an update in a year than to RMA both gigabyte product I own.

- Prior to go UEFI I must know if the videocard is really UEFI and if it is related to the pcix 3.0 support, I cannot see info that point in this direction.
- I would test to downgrade to F9 or F8 too but I'm not aware if this can cause me more trouble, I've had crash issue in F8, F9 was ok.
- I could also flash the videocard with a MSI or Saphire bios as both support UEFI and Legacy, this was possible 20 years ago as all videocard was the same with different sticker on it, but today I'm more like to wait someone to show me if it worked for him..

@dmdilks, I'm ok with your logicals deductions but i'm here to discuss, maybe with some official Gigabyte people, or at least some people who already tried some of step I will have to do, it is the purpose of a forum :)

Thanks.

I've just took time to try bios F8 and F9 while babies give a break here, nothing...

I will not go UEFI while BETA... 8 month left anyway till end of my motherboard warranty, time to wait.

I guess by the time I'll want to go crossfire it will be hasbeen anyway as I am very slow to update, till now I played my game with a HD3000, more beer needed

I'm uploading a picture to see why this issue really bother me, as I don't get money to buy a bigger tower and the x4 slot is dawn close of the case floor. Yes, I really make a hole with some ultra basic tool to get it work without burning, and now I cannot put the tower on his feet anymore, as it obstruct the hole. That's my story.

Then a new case, or RMA, or UEFI, or new board/cpu, or just leave it there... I'm slowly getting over it.

Today the gigabyte support told me that officially, my R7-260x is UEFI, good info to start with.

I've asked him when the BETA UEFI for my Z68MA will be officially released, and if there will be LEGACY ROM for my 260x (like other brand)..

Will see tomorrow..

Today the support told me that their will never be any official UEFI Bios for that motherboard, good to know...

They also explain that their is no reason a UEFI graphic card bug with a Legacy Motherboard..

Bumping for actual answers rather than pure speculation.

Had a GA-Z68AP-D3 (UEFI (UA9)) + i5-2400 since January 2012 using an old 8400GS, upgraded December of last year to a 650 Ti. And I recieved same results but just put up with it as I could not find anyone with the same issues.

Any answers from Gigabyte yet? This is rediculous as it stated in the specifications of the 650 Ti that it is backwards compatible with PCIe2.0@x16, this appealed to me due to having a Sandy Bridge (See my post here http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,14501.0.html)

Have to say I'm not happy about not receiving the power I have paid for and was informed I would get.
