Hi folks
Im looking to upgrade my pc with something that will play latest games. I only have a budget of 200 euro. after many days of painstaking research Ive managed to single out the Gigabyte version of the GTX 660 oc, which i can get from here:
http://www.dabs.ie/products/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-660-1033mhz-2gb-pci-express-3-0-hdmi-oc-8911.html?refs=490500000&src=2However, I am not a very technically minded person and despite my research on the big question of "will this card work for my pc" I'm still very much confused and scared that Ill buy something that wont work, or will damage my pc in some way because of its incompatibility. I'm also concerned that if its a case the card is not compatible with my pc is it even possible to return the card, i mean based on the fact that Ive opened the box and inserted the card.
Anyway I'm really stuck and I need to get something that will work first time.
My pc is an Advent DT2412
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/advent-dt2412-desktop-pc-pc-world-699-99-1519673Although the stats there don't mention its PSU or slots.. I can confirm the pc has a 450w psu and a suitable PCIe 3.0 slot that will take the card.
The card I want states it requires a 450w minimum.. unfortunately I don't have any money to get a new psu and pay even more to get someone to install it.. so my first question is will my 450w psu be enough for this card?.... I should note I only use mouse keyboard (sometimes joypad).. they are the only usb things Ide have plugged in.. There is only one hd in the pc drawing power..etc.. also if playing games ill never go over 1360x768 so i assume that will reduce what the card is drawing from the power compared to a higher res.... anyway... all things considered can I be confident that this card will perform with my 450w psu?
Ok.. well as you can see from the stats on my PC .. I'm unfortunately on windows8, so this brings me to my next concern about this card and my perticular system. I have heard many bad things about win8 (and in particular my specific model of pc) rejecting many video cards due to issues with bios. As mentioned above alot of this i don't really understand as I'm really not very technical, but I did manage to find this:
http://www.adventcomputers.co.uk/product-support/faq-windows-8-uefi-and-graphics-cards-updatedAlthough I only understand 50% of what that article says... Dose this mean the GTX 660 OC will not work for my pc based on the bios/os setup?
I note they have a fix for it down the bottom but I'm still nervous about this since I don't want to spend the only 200 or so euro i have on something that as soon as i open its box i can not return.
in short.. I need to be 100% sure this card will work and perform reasonably on the specific system I have.
I sure hope someone here can help me get that piece of mind so I have enough confidence to go ahead and order it.
thanks folks..
