New Build,, AMD 8320 and Gigabyte 970A-UD3P Motherboard

Gigabyte 970A-UD3P Motherboard, AMD8320, 8Gb Corsair vengence 1666mhz, having problems installing operating system, when I boot pc im told that no bootable devices can be found. This is my first build and I need an idiot proof step by step guide on setting Bios correctly so as I can put windows 7 disc in optical drive and install. Pleas help, many thx.

We need some info on your computer. Like SSD or HDD and how you have them setup?

Hi, no SSD just a single Sata 1TB H-drive plugged into sata o port and a single optical DVDRW plugged into sata 1 port, hope thats enough information.

I don't have your board but I have one that is set up the same way.
Go into the BIOS and look under Peripherals .
Look for OnChip SATA Type and OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type.
OnChip SATA Type = Native IDE
OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type = IDE
If they are both IDE then you should be able to boot the Windows 7 DVD ok and install OK.

I had problems when I did this.
OnChip SATA Type = AHCI
OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type = As SATA Type
The bard drives and DVD seemed to work OK but I could not boot from the DVD anymore. In fact the computer would boot from the hard drive no matter what I set the boot drive to. Even disabling all boot drives made no difference.

I solved the problem by doing this in BIOS:
OnChip SATA Type = AHCI
OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type = IDE
I then moved the DVD to SATA Port4 so it could use IDE mode. The hard drives remained on SATA Port0 and Port1 so they could use AHCI mode.

Change boot option to CD/dvd device, or USB disk if you are installing from usb
