GIGABYTE Z97 UDH3 doesn't recongnize new 2.5" HD

No matter what I do it just doesn't want to recognize the HD.
The disc is spinning, it has power.
Using the same SATA cable as another working drive doesn't help.
I seriously doubt the HD is DOA.

Is the drive recognised in BIOS?

Have you formatted the drive?

Have you assigned a drive letter?
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

It's not recognized in BIOS.

We need to know the HDD details. Size, brand, type. If it is not recognized in the bios, I would try to update the bios first.
Any HDD over 2TB can be very tricky to setup. And some require a bios update to install. Some hybrid HDD do not show up
in the bios and require special software for installation. Like a WD's hybrid HDD.

If you are trying to install a notebook HDD in a desktop, it will not work without an adapter/converter.
