GA-J1900N-D3V boot process stalls

(Somehow this ended up in the wrong sub-forum before - my apologies to the mods.)

I have been evaluating a GA-J1900N-D3V.

This one has 2x4GB from the approved list.
The PSU is 24 pin + Aux 12V 4pin.
The BIOS upgraded to F3 without problems.
A few legacy settings were tweaked.
The system worked fine for more than a week.
It was fine after many reboots, power off, etc.

Recently it decided not to boot properly.

The power supply starts OK.
The power LED comes on.
No beeps.
No VGA or DVI display.
No response to keyboard input.
The on-board debug port output stops at '32'.
(Lookup for that code did not lead me to a fix.)

I tried the BIOS reset jumper several times.
Same for the recommended battery removal process.
Same for overnight without PSU or battery.

Trying the CPU reset button just causes a power down.

I have tried various substitutions:-

Several power switches.
3 different power supplies.
Various 1.35V SODIMM modules.
PS2 and USB keyboards.
2 different 15-pin SVGA monitors.
And finally even a DVI monitor.

All of the substitution parts work fine with a different GA-J1900N-D3V board.

If I take all the RAM out the system powers up for about 30 seconds then silently powers down.

With no beeps and no display:-

 a) Changing disk/OS seems like a waste of time.
 b) I would not expect a BIOS recovery to work.

I know this is a UEFI BIOS and not-quite-developed but I would emphasise that the system was working for days without incident until this boot problem.

So..

Has anyone recovered this board from this state ?

Does anyone know any other relevant tricks ?

With this exact BIOS (F3), what boot process stalled if the debug code is '32' ?

Has the BIOS got some crazy one-way security measure ?

Any other advice ?

Thanks.

Paddy

P.S.
To Giga-Byte (if you read the forums.) ...

ATM this seems like a good board with a poor BIOS.
I used to recommend Giga-Byte first, now I am unsure.

UEFI seems to be growing like crazy.
How long before it thinks it an OS or becomes sentient ?
All we really want is robust motherboards that boot properly.
