Z77 DS3h V1.1 & Windows XP - Suggestions please!!
« on: July 25, 2014, 12:47:21 pm »
Good afternoon,
I have a Z77 DS3h V1.1 (with BIOS F9 as I never had problems bringing me to the upgrade) with Windows XP SP3 installed on a previous MB.

When I bought the Z77, I moved the disk and then I was able to switch from IDE to AHCI changing on the fly the two "IDE Standard Channel" drivers.

I run smoothly since when I refreshed XP SP3 (patched installation disk) and I swtiched back to IDE. (What is XP refresh? It's just choosing to NOT install fresh but update existing installation).

Then I repeated same process to switch from IDE to AHCI but it doesn't work.
So I created a floppy with AHCI drivers to refresh again XP, this time setting AHCI since the beginning. It never worked.
I started then to remove all unnecessary drives/memory but no success.

So is it possible to install XP in AHCI mode on Z77 DS3H V1.1 with BIOS F9?
If yes, please provide some hints.
If not, do you think upgrading to BIOS beta F11a could help here?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Alex

I don't think it is the bios that is stopping you it is something within XP.  The drivers all installed from your previous installed motherboard might be causing conflicts.

Thank you, good point.
I'll do a clean installation on a different directory renaming system directories.
I'll let you know.
Thanks again.

I confirm I was able to install a frash XP.
Now I'll try to figure out if I'm able to find out differences and patch existing installation. Any suggestion is more than welcome.
Thanks.
