Another Windows 7 64bit install nightmare

Another Windows 7 64bit install nightmare
« on: August 06, 2014, 11:40:12 pm »
Hello,
After searching the forum and trying multiple fixes found in similar posts I am still having trouble. My Issue is a new PC build and trying to install Window7 OEM 64 bit.  It goes all the way through installation and starts what I assume is the driver installation, the screen flashes once then reboots and I get message that installation has failed  due to un-expected restart. I have tried un-plugging all components other than the Memory and 1 hard drive and still problem persists. When I can get to repair tool it runs and says nothing can be fixed.  I have used the Diskpart to clean the disk and start over multiple times.  For BIOS is have selected optimum defaults on the save and exit tab.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium GFC-02733 Operating System Software - 64bit, DVD
Gigabyte GA_970A-DS3P BIOS Ver F1 8A02BG09
AMD FD8350FRHKBOX FX-8350 Eight-Core 4GHz AM3+ Processor - AM3+, Eight-Core, 4GHz, 16MB, 125W, Unlocked
XFX PVT86JYAHG GeForce 8500 GT 512MB 128-Bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Seagate Barracuda 1TB Hard Drive - 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA 6Gb/s - ST1000DM003
Patriot Viper Xtreme 8GB Desktop Memory Module - DDR3, 1600MHz, PC3-12800, CL 11, 1.5V - PX38G1600C11

Thanks in advance for the help.

You don't need to use Diskpart to clean the disk and start over. Just delete any old partitions when the Windows install DVD starts and let it create new partitions.
1) GA-Z97X-Gaming 7, G3258,
2) GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 1.1, FX-8350
3) GA-AM1M-S2P, Sempron 3850 Kabini

I have tried that as well but then it tells me that I cannot install on that drive because it if EFI system not GPT.

Would installing a copy of vista and then upgrading to window 7 work? will OEM disk allow upgrade? has option but never tried it.

With a Seagate Barracuda 1TB drive you don't need a protected EFI disk partition. Follow this guide to remove the EFI partition with DISKPART.
http://www.winability.com/delete-protected-efi-disk-partition/

Then just use the standard PC disk partition scheme, which uses a master boot record (MBR).

2) GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 1.1, FX-8350
3) GA-AM1M-S2P, Sempron 3850 Kabini

One other thing to add make sure you boot from DVD/rw and not UEFI DVD/rw.

Ok, I followed the advice and deleted partition, Set BIOS to install from DVD/RW. And Still crashes after 1st reboot with blue screen of death. then goes into endless reboot fail cycle until I hold power off.

Then I did the disk clean again and put the old Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit disk in and it installed 1st time no problem everything worked fine. Tried to run Windows 7 64 bit as upgrade and of course that did not work. so I tried Custom install to wipe everything and install windows 7 back to the above mentioned screen of death and endless loop of reboots.

Is this a hardware Issue? 32 vs 64 bit issue?

Help Please!!!
Driving me crazy.

When you say it's a new PC build, I take you you ran MemTest86 on the RAM before doing anything else?

Are all the components brand new or are some second hand?

After you installed Vista did you stress test everything with benchmark programs, to make sure it's all working?

Personally, after finishing a new build I double check all the connections etc, Run Memtest86 and other diagnostics, then only when I'm satisfied it's all working as it should, do I install the OS and continue stress testing with benchmarking progs.

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html contains some excellent diagnostic and testing tools which you can run without having an OS installed.

Have you made sure all the bios settings are at default settings (except for the boot from DVD)

Have you physically inspected the Win 7 DVD for scratches/dirt etc? Even if you can't see any sometimes cleaning discs will solve a problem.

Odds are it's something really simple.

Hope you solve the problem.

Ali.

The guy was having the same kind problem and that is what fix it for him. Why I don't because I never see that before.

Thanks for the input, I have been traveling for work and not able to try your suggestions but plan to work on it this weekend.

The only 2nd hand component is the video card, 1 hard drive, and the Case. the New hard drive is the one i am trying to install OS on the old one is not even hooked up yet and only contains all my files.

I did run Memtest86 and everything checked out. Bios is at default other than DVD boot.

I have 2 copies of Win 7 64 bit, i Have tried both. The one worked on this old laptop I am using now.
No I only Installed Vista and then tried to upgrade to Win 7.

I will let you know what happens, thanks again!

It was the video card.  I upgraded to a windows 7 compatible video card and everything runs fine. So much for the "Is your computer compatible" feature from windows.

Thanks again for all the advice.

You learn some thing new every day. I just put windows 7 on a old Dell and I had a on-board video card that wasn't compatible.

But everything load fine. Glad you got it. Like I said windows comes up with something new every day you learn from.

I have been loading windows 7 on computers from it was release and have never ran into that. Plus that is over a 100 computers too.
