Used @Bios to flash z87 hd3 F8 now won't boot

I thought these motherboards were supposed to be fool proof. Well I've proved myself the bigger fool  :(

I was running quite happily with the out of the box bios. I noticed in the app center there was some updates to run. Went to @bios and it said to install F8 so I went ahead with it. Really wish I hadn't bothered. The program said everything was fine and 100% complete. Asked me to restart which I did. Computer seemed to start to boot then restarted. I thought, odd but maybe it was meant to do it. Then it got to post screen and stopped. It says I can press Del, F12 etc but nothing works.

I'm using a PS2 keyboard.
Tried turning power off a back, pressing power, turning on, let button go, turning power off, then start normally but nothing seems to work.

What's the point of these "ultrareliable" dual bios if you can't even recover from it? Surely there should just be a button you can press to switch between them???

Anyone got any advice?

Board: z87 hd3 v1
HD: Samsung 250GB SSD
Graphics: Nvidia 970GTX
OS: Windows 8.1 64bit pro

Did you unhook power supply and take out the battery for 5 minutes?

No I haven't yet. I'll try it when I get in from work tonight.

This is what Gigabyte support have just this minute suggested too.

I hope it works. I've got this brand spanking new graphics card installed with Batman, TombRaider on the machine and Elite Dangerous on pre order waiting to play  :-[

Search the forums here for a guide on how to enable the backup bios to kick in if the battery reset does not work.

Damn! I tried whipping the battery out for about 15 but it was exactly the same behaviour. It' so strange how it gets as far as the POST svcreen then won't let you do anything. I guess this is why the auto backup bios isn't kicking in.

Their own software really shouldn't be able to do this to itself should it really?!

also tried taking graphics card out and running just from onboard DVI just in case. No change.

I'm gonna try leaving the battery out for an hour or so as both Gigabyte and OCUK support suggested this route. Will keep you posted.

Method #1:
 1. Shut your PC down (if you're reading this guide, than your PC isn't working anyways)
 2. Hold the power button until the PC starts and shuts down again
 3. Press the power button again, your backup BIOS should kick in now and should re-flash the main BIOS if there's anything wrong with it.

 Method #2:
 1. Shut your PC down
 2. Hold the power AND the reset button for about 10 sec, than release.
 3. Backup BIOS should kick in anytime soon now.

 Method #3:
Had to use this one in order to get my 990FXA-D3 working again. Backup BIOS kicked in using method #2, but I was back to the good ol' no signal state once the procedure finished..
 1. Short out pins 1 and 6 on the main BIOS chip (pin #1 should be marked with a red dot or whatever)
 2. Tell a friend (or a relative) of yours to press the power on button
 3. Remove the ghetto-like jumper you're holding between pins 1 and 6 as soon as you hear a beep.
 4. Backup BIOS should kick in again and everything will (hopefully) be fine.

Yeah I'd read these 3 techniques on another post. None of them work.

OCUK are going to RMA the board under warranty. Phew! Still shocked it happened in the first place but not a bad result I guess. Desperate to get it back now. Fingers crossed before xmas.

Still don't see the point of a dual bios board if it's so easy to brick.

They usually aren't. If you ever have to flash bios again do not use app center. Use a USB and format it in fat then download bios and unzip to USB then restart computer and have USB drive in but do not boot from it. Hit delete and enter bios and flash from bios. Works for me every time.

Cheers mate, I'll keep  it in mind. Don't think I'll ever do it again unless there is something I REALLY need in the update.
