Is GA-G41M-Combo compatible with MSI Radeon R9 280 Gaming
« on: December 02, 2014, 05:13:29 pm »
Hi everyone,

I am currently checking the possibilities to upgrade my system with a new graphic card, which is MSI Radeon R9 280 Gaming.
This card doesn't fit on my current board, which I also need to exchange.

Since I'm not willing to upgrade my whole sytem, I am restricted to the following settings:
case-size: mini => board-size: micro-atx
socket: 775
number of memory slots: 4
prefered chipset: Intel

The GA-G41M-Combo fulfills all of my demands, so I am wondering if this board is compatible with the mentioned graphic card.
Especially I am curious about the technical compatibility and if there is enough space around the PCI Express x16 slot.
AFAIK the dimensions of the card are :
length: 268mm
depth above the slot: 34mm
depth beneath the slot: 3mm

I appreciate any reasonable answer.

Cheers,
nille1234

It will cover  one pci slot and the case is going to be hard. Will fit in a mid tower for sure but a mini is going to be hard the worst part is the 775 socket is old. Last bios for that board is F3 in 2010 and some newer cards have a issue with older bios. You can try it but is really iffy if you ask me.

I have to agree with autotech that you are taking a chance running that card on that board. I just build a computer with a P67a board & i5-2400 sandy bridge cpu.

I'm using a HIS R7-250x 1GB video card and was crossing my finger that it would work. Even with that setup you are taking a chance too. It did work too.

I see. Thank you for you answer.
I know that it could be a technical problem.

I am especially wondering if the card is too broad for the memory slots...

Won't interfere with ram slots the top of the card will clear it, where towards the bottom it will cover it the pci slot.
