x99-Ud4 not starting up
« on: December 19, 2014, 03:41:39 pm »
Just setup the above motherboard in a corsair 780t case with 1 stick of 8gb ballistix ram and a gtx 970.
PC fires up for few seconds then goes off. All the fans go on. Nothing on screen.
Tried a bios update with the white usb socket and everything comes on for longer as the bios flashes then again goes off (bios light on motherboard stays on)
Totally perplexed.
PSU is an 850w evga, i am wondering if the bios is flashing correctly as it is supposed to restart when the bios led stops flashing but pc just goes off with the bios led staying lit.

CPU is an intel i7 5820K. The cooler is connected to the CPU fan socket on motherboard (the white socket)

Any ideas ?

Make sure no USB devices are plugged in (except for mouse/keyboard), nothing over-clocked. You might want to try the motherboard switches to try the MAIN or BACKUP BIOS. If that doesn't help, contact Gigabyte and hope you get a competent trouble shooter.

Ok not sure how to do this, not in the manual ?

Ok stripped the motherboard back and reseated the cpu. Had it set up on a piece of cardboard away from the case.

Can find no bios switches onboard and thus no way to swap to backup bios, except the power button holding thing (which changed nothing)

With just the motherboard connected to psu (an evga 850w) via the 24pin and the extra 8pin cable. The motherboard does the same thing lights up (plus the cooler fans spin) for 2 or 3 seconds then dies.  I shorted the power switch pinouts to see if it would power up but nothing. It should power on shouldnt it ?? .. even if to tell me to there is a problem, but i get nothing on the monitor (when i had it connected)

Before i removed the motherboard from the case i tried another graphics card and nothing changed. Tried with and without the ram. Also in different slots. Nothing changed. I have nothing connected in the usb ports either.

I contacted Gigabyte esupport but i doubt i will hear from them until well into January now.

Anyone ?

I have started an rma for the motherboard. Can't understand why it seemingly starts up by turning on from the Psu then every attempt to start from the case power button or shorting the pins does nothing. Weird

You said you reseated the CPU did you look at the pins to make sure you don't have a bent pin?

Yeah i did have a look and didnt spot anything amiss, but could really have done with a magnifying glass for a more thorough inspection.
