Curious, what USB devices have you tried? Mine FUNCTION normally, just can't reliably BOOT with something plugged in.

I have a My book 2gb ext hard drive. It will boot, but it will sit at the Gigabyte for about 20 sec. If I take the ext drive off it will boot right up.

Sounds like your getting about the same behavior as I'm getting. Try plugging in a 3 joystick HOTAS setup and watch it choke!
