GA-990FXA-UD3 w/ AMD FX8320 reboot possibly solved
« on: March 28, 2015, 01:13:04 am »
I was having issues with the GA-990FXA-UD3 w/ AMD FX8320 rebooting on me at various times. Some times it was once I logged in other times it was when I wasn't doing anything at all. The event viewer came back with Kernel-Power Event ID: 41 "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

After much trial and error it would appear that the times it DID unexpectedly reboot on me was when Core Boost Performance (CPB) was enabled.  Once I disabled that I have been able to use the system without any issue. I think it may be an issue with my PSU not having enough power but I was hoping my Thermaltake 600w PSU was enough.

Regardless I am thinking taking it back and buying the ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 or maybe the Asrock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer.

My concern is that it isn't a PSU issue and I have 7 days to return the board and I don't want to have a board that I am not able to use to its full potential.

I am just posting this hoping that maybe it will help someone with similar issues.

(If my system reboots over the course of the weekend while CPB is OFF I will post an update).

The thing is that it might not either be the board or CPU. It could be you are using the wrong version bios. What version board do you have and what version bios do you have?
X299X Aorus Master, i9-9940x-3.30Ghz, 64gb G-Skill DDR4-2400, MSI RTX-3070 8GB, Cooler Master case, Thermal-take PSU 850w, 1-M2-NMVe SSD-512gb, 3-Pny 1TB SSD, 2-WD Raptors 1TB, Win 10 pro 64bit, Asus 35" 144Mhz Monitor.

Rev 4 with F2 (what was delivered with the board).

No, it's no a psu issue and I have the same problem if CPB is enabled - this board has 3 major design flaws:

1) CPB (in bios) does cause erratic CPU behaviour if enabled
2) Via USB controller (and ports) like to disappear from time to time - only a pwr off can revive the controller
3) CPU fan speed after sleep too slow

I don't know if the revision update to 4.1 fixes these problems
