USB 3 ports
« on: April 07, 2015, 12:56:54 pm »
Hi, I just purchased a new GA-Z97X-Gaming 7 mobo. Installed win 7 64 bit on ssd. After installing installing all drivers that came with the disc, USB 3 keeps telling me to format hard drive before it can be used. I have 2 hard drives inside an enclosure. When I plug it into a usb 2 port, no issues. I have multiple times uninstalled drivers, re downloaded drivers from Gigabyte website with no results. My bios is F6. I must add that when I plug a small portable usb3 hard drive in any of the blue ports they get detected. It's only the big enclosure that gives me issues. Has anyone encountered this before ?

Thank You

How big is the big enclosure? If they are over 2tb that might be the problem. Not saying that is the problem. The other thing are these enclosure setup USB 3 or USB 2?

One of the hard drives in there is a Samsung 2 tb and the other a Hitachi 1tb. The enclosure is a usb3 enclosure.
Not sure if I can post a link but here is the enclosure I'm using. According to their website it supports hard drives up to 4tb per HD

When you first set set of hard drives. Was it on the older computer with USB-2? That could be the problem. You might have to bite the bullet and re-do with the USB-3.

That's what I have tried to do. I moved everything over to other hard drives so I can format these. I get errors saying windows cannot format and then they disappear. I have just now tried a friends Seagate big external 2 tb usb 3 HD and it picked it up without a glitch. I have a feeling it's the enclosure after all. Sucks but I guess I have to buy a new one.

Thanks
