GA-Z87M-D3H random crashes and boot-loops

Hi,

I have just assembled a new system with GA-Z87M-D3H, i5-4670k, and 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix memory (BLS2CP8G3D1609DS1S00CEU) and experience lots of stability issues even below default clocks. The computer seems to be running fine at times, passing stress tests with Prime95 and AIDA64 but will then suddenly reboot while surfing the web. (no temp problems) When it does crash it seems to end up in some kind of beeping boot loop for a while until power is cut. After a minute it can be restarted again and seems to run fine.

I have tried default bios setting, reflashing the latest bios (F8),  lowered cpu and memory clocks, higher DRAM voltages, with/without XMP, internal/external GFX, changed PSU, and moved memory around betwen the slots and 1 or 2 sticks. To me this seems like a BIOS or memory compatibility issue. What should I do next?

I have something similar like that, please check if your PSU in this list www.techreport.com/review/24897/the-big-haswell-psu-compatibility-list
If it's nnot listed, then in the bios go to Power managment and try to enable "Power Loading" (not sure if D3H have it, but try to find)

If it's listed...Than if you have 4+ SATA devices try to run them one by one. For example now i've found that on my motherboard if i use more than 4, it fails like that...Not sure what to do in such case yet :\

I don not think the PSU is the problem, CX430M is on the "likely compatible"-list and i have tried with another PSU also, with power loading on Auto.

my friend using Z87X chips on ASUS board without this problem!!!

Now I am sure this is a mb issue. Intel diagnostics OK, memtest86 OK.

Tested every bios option there is and re-seated the processor.

Gigabyte officials please respond.

Same mobo here.

Updated BIOS to F8 still no luck with 4 RAM sticks. System is stable with just 2 sticks. The same RAM was ok on my 1156 mobo. All tests point to a BIOS issue. Please Gigabyte fix this ASAP.

I just got my MB back from RMA with a note saying it was tested ok. No action.

Of course my problem remains. Endless boot loops with 2 sticks of memory until moved to other slots, then crash and boot loop again. Memtest OK.

Reseller refuses to take the product back as it tested ok. I'm obviously not very happy with Gigabyte right now...

This could probably be resolved by changing out my mem, but it's more expensive than the MB and as i see it this problem is caused by poor memory compatibility fom Gigabyte.

Does anyone know if ASrock Z87M Extreme4 works better?

Very similar issues, my configuration is:

• Z87M DH3
• 2 x 4 Gb Dimms, Gskill Ripwjaws (1600 MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.5 V)
• SSD Samsung 840 Pro 128 Gb for the system
• 1 HD WD 1 Tb
• 1 DVD-RW unit (Asus)
• Graphics: R9 270X by  sapphire
• Power supply: fortron Aurum gold 500W
• Windows 7 64 bit Home full up to date

If I put both memory dimms on the motherboard, unexpected blue screens here and there, even not stressing the machine. Downloading a torrent helps a lot to let the crash show up. An easy one is "World of Warplanes" using the client of the installer.

If I put only one memory dimm (reducing available memory to 4 Gb), the machine becomes stable. If I put the other memory dimm (still 4  Gb), I observe the same issues (thus I marked them ...). That's why I first thought issues were linked with that dimm.

Then I tested with success each dimm individually and both of them with the last memtest program (from ultimate boot CD 5.2.7). When that program says the memory is OK, it's OK for me.

I'm very upset and don't really know what to do. I will try stabilize things by borrowing other brand's dimms at work. However Ripjaws are an example of rock steady memories, simple, not overcloked and working at standard voltage (1.5 V)

I assembled (and debugged) quite a number of PCs in my life, and I never faced such an headache prone situation.

I noted with great interest the "power load" option from the BIOS. I will keep the forum informed of my investigations.

Hi folks,

finally, I could stabilize the board by lowering manually the memory coefficient from 16 to 13.333. Doing so, the memory is clocked to only 1333 MHz instead of 1600 MHz. Sounds like the PC is stable now. It is far from being quite normal, but the performance penalty should be marginal.

I have had the same problem, but I think I fixed it.

For 48 hours now it's been running without any issues.

In Bios i hated the layout with the windows like interface. So what I did was go to normal mode( think it was f7) The i had the oldscool bios layout.
I the pressed load optimized settings or what it's called.

And ever since, there's been no problems!

I've found this topic but all of these posts arn't helpfull to solve the freeze issue. I'm finally able to solve the problem after replacing nearly all components. When the Windows started to freeze I've seen on the monitor small black stripes then system hangs or rebooted. I've installed an Intel Pro PCIe Adapter on the first PCIe slot. Everything are fine with Mavericks 10.9.2 but Windows 7 and 8.1 Pro are randomly freezed. After removing the Intel Pro from the PCIe slot the system is running stable. On the 2nd PCIe is a WiFi card installed. I've spend multiple hours to troubleshoot the issue. Very strange because Windows 7/8 setup allways performed without any freezes. So my recommandation: If the CPU based Intel grafic is used don't use the first PCIe slot for non VGA adapters.

That is because they are no drivers install for that card. You might be having a driver problem with that card Or this could be the problem.

Go in and change the setting on the PCIe-1 slot and see what happens. On all the Z87 boards the CPU graphics and the PCIe 1 slot are set for the first display.

I can't really tell you what setting to put it on, I'm only going by the book. Windows could be fighting on which card to use for the first display.

Init Display First
Specifies the first initiation of   the monitor display from the installed PCI graphics card, PCI Express graphics card or the onboard graphics.
IGFX                    Sets the onboard graphics as the first display.
PCIe-1 Slot    Sets the graphics card on the PCIEX16 slot as the first display.   (Default)

Internal Graphics
Enables or disables   the onboard graphics function. (Default: Enabled)

Hello evreyone!!!
After upgrading  BIOS to F10, the system became unstable till it did not even enter BIOS.
I tried a lot of things till I realized that changing memory from one slot to another, solved the problem untill next boot.
So I entered BIOS and did the following change:
  MIT. -> Advanced Memory Settings -> Channel A Memory Sub Timings -> Memory Boot Mode -> Disable Fast Boot

Now it boots normally!!!!

Still doesn not work if I send it to sleep using "Suspend" in Windows 8.1. But al least it boots!!!
