P35-DS3R and SATA2
« on: January 17, 2009, 08:46:29 pm »
Hi all,
I have had numerous SATA disc failures with 2 of my P35-DS3R rev 1.1 mobos (6 discs RMAd)
Discs are Samsung HD501LJ (500GB) SATA2
No raid in use.

Symptoms:
a) disc corurpution after games crash
b) cannot install Vista as it gives cannot copy files error
c) cannot install XP after full format - disk errors
d) disc drives "clicking" loudly (recalibrating??) in XP and Vista

If I put the drives in another mobo - ASROCK775 - they work fine?

Anyone seen anything similar?

Regards,
Neil

Hi Neil

haven't heard about such problem. Do you use bios ver. F13c ? If not then you can get it from:
http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=BIOS&FileID=14166

Do you connect HDD to orange colour SATA connector on the motherboard ?

Have you tried with different HDD's? If yes which vendor/model and what was result?

Hi all,
yes had tried with bios up to f12
yes tried it with orange SATA connectors (and purple too !)
yes tried it with different SATA (Western Digtal)

but that board has now gone back to GBT Tech for RMA

we'll see what happens.

Hi all,
board came back from RMA with no faults found.
Rebuilt XP on the SATA2 disc (in IDE mode, no SATA drivers) and it is working fine now.
Must have been a power supply / RAM issue. (both now changed)
