Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 (rev. 1.2) and WD 4TB Green
« on: July 23, 2015, 04:28:36 pm »
Hello all, first time posting here :)

Anyway, I have a GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.2) and just yesterday I tried to install a WD 4TB Green (WD40EZRX).

Just after installing it, it does not even power up properly. The disk does a little click and start spinning as it's trying to start. It does that a couple of times and then it stops as the computer gives up trying to start the disk.

This also happened with another 4TB from Toshiba I had and returned thinking that it was defective. This pattern worries me that something is wrong with my computer.

Can anyone kindly help me with that? Do this motherboard supports such big HDDs?

Thanks in advance,
Arky

Greetings,
Start with this:

Overall requirements for a non-bootable data volume
For a system to be able to address the maximum capacity of a device that has a storage capacity of more than 2 TB, the following prerequisites apply: •The disk must be initialized by using GPT.

•The Windows version must be one of the following (32-bit or 64-bit, unless otherwise noted, but including all SKU editions): •Windows Server 2008 R2 (only 64 bit version available)
•Windows Server 2008
•Windows 7
•Windows Vista

•The latest storage drivers from your storage controller manufacturer must be installed

Sounds to me the mobo (latest bios?) is a dud and btw the latest revision for this board is 4.1 - your board is ancient!
