GA-MA790X-UD4 and 8gb of Kingston KHX8500D2K2 4x2gb

Hi everyone!

I used to have 4gb installed clocked at 1066mhz (2.2v 5-5-5-15 as Kingston sais) with no problem. When I added 4gb more I had blue screens... I run MemTest and realised that I have errors at 1066 Mhz whatever configuration. Only by clocking the ram at 800mhz I was error free. It's realy fustrating cause the Ram modules are expensive and it's a bumer I can get what they should give...
PS I've the latest beta bios 7b but I don't think that's the problem...
Any suggentions?

Hi,

what CPU are you running?

Hi,

checking out the QVL for your mobo it states:
Note: Due to AMD AM2+ CPU limitation, memory module DDR2 1066 or above speed is only supported by 1 dimm per channel (here's the link: http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/FileList/MemorySupport/motherboard_memory_ga-ma790x-ud4.pdf )

You now have 2 dimms per channel, so I guess this is the problem.

However, the difference between 4 gig running at 1066Mhz  or 8 gig running at 800 Mhz would only really be noticed in benchmarks and having the larger amount of memory even if it is a little slower, is in my opinion, the better choice.

The other option would be to replace the CPU to an AM3 version.

Hope this helps.

Is this a limitation of the socket or the CPU? Because I read systems with this mobo running 8gb of RAM at 1066 with no problem...

Hi,
as mentioned in my previous reply, it's due to the CPU.....

Ok thank you guys. I'll clock them to 1066 when I upgrade to an AM3...
