Need help upgrading ram

Hi, so I am using the gigabyte ex58 Ud 5 and I have 3 x 2gb corsair xms3 pieces of ram I am trying install 3 more of the same ram but the pc will not boot with them all in. I have managed to get it working with 8gb but any more added and no luck. I'm using a Intel i7 at 2.66ghz

OK could we have a little more info. The CPU is a i7-920 right. If it is it will only support DDR3 800/1066 memory. If you are trying to run any thing higher that could be the problem.

This is what the board will support DDR3 2100+/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules. If you are trying to run 1600 that could be the problem. That is why I ask for some more info on the memory.

Yeah I'm using the i7 920 and using 1600mhz, all 4 current pieces working are 1600 though as I bought the pc with 3 of them so assumed it would take 3 more

Yes the computer and that board will support up to 24 GB. But as you put in more memory at that speed you will have to OC your CPU just a little. Or I have seen where that you might have two slots not working.

Have you tried sticks in the two other slots to see if it will boot? That is with the 8 gb of memory. I'm not saying you because you bought the computer that way. Most people don't understand that when you are building a computer.

The first thing is to see what the CPU will support without OC. Because it says that it can support that memory doesn't mean that the CPU can. People make that mistake all the time.  DDR3 2100+/1333/1066/800 the 2100+ means OC. The 1333/1066/800 means it doesn't have to be OC.

I have had about 6 to 8 of those series board. Yes I myself did run 1600 memory in them. Plus I did have many problems with running them. Everything in that series CPU only supports 1066 without OC.

One other thing too what is the BIOS # are you running? "F12" Enhanced memory compatibility
