Z170mx gaming 5 powers on but no video output.
« on: May 15, 2017, 09:18:53 am »
Hello,

I am fairly new to the hardware side of computers but I believe I've done everything right in this scenario.

My setup is:

A corsair 750w power supply (which I have tested and know is good)
a EX-GTX1050TI-4G graphics card (also been checked)
a z170mx gaming 5 rev 1.1 (no bent pins)
a Pentium processor stated on the bios f5 update as compatible (in order to update the bios in order to support skylark i5 7500 later)
1 stick of 2gb crucial ram (compatible and used again to allow me to configure the bios to use vengence lpx ram 2 x8gb)

I have two of these boards now due to complications in delivery but both produce the same error when attempting to post/boot. The machine powers on (no beep) fans run graphics card fans spin (then shut off due to low heat) then nothing. No visual output on any connectors both intergrated on the z170 or from the 1050ti. the manual states the the rev 1.1 defaults to the PCI express x16 when booting but nothing. tried both with and without the card and have tried ram in slots 1 and three but to no success.

When I start the board without a CPU it presents the 5 beep no CPU error code so I'm presuming the board itself is fine.
Any one have any ideas, any help appreciated as this was not exactly cheap.

Many thanks,

CC

What about your display.  What it is and are you using any adapters?

39" panasonic television and a 32" samsung I have used. Used VGA with no adapter, HDMI with no adapter and DVI but that was using an adapter to then go into the televisions HDMI. I've tried every combination with both integrated graphics and the graphics cards. No signal on both televisions.

thanks for the swift reply,

Just to clarify...  You have display and can enter BIOS when you have a single 2gb stick of RAM inserted?

What CPU model and what speed LPX memory kit are you using?  Is the LPX memory on the QVL for your board?  Also, anything above 2133Mhz is not guaranteed to run without OC.

Nope nothing displayed what so ever, just the televisions "no signal" message on all forms of input. And apologies its a 4gb crucial DDr4 2133mt/s (PC-4-17000) stick of ram and a PENTIUM DUAL CORE g4400 3.3GHZ

thanks

Rev 1.0 variant

F1 was shipping BIOS, F2 was released the following month the same year (2015).  G4400 is supported with BIOS F2...  Its probably safe to say your recently acquired board has at least F2.

Rev 1.1...
F5 was shipping and supports G4400

The 5 beep behavior for missing CPU sounds normal

For now, only test with onboard video

Disconnect power to MB

Perform a battery pull (3 min), reinsert battery

Reconnect power

If the systems runs after power up (stays running) , but video is never initialized....

Recheck all of your power connections - ensure the 12v ATX supplement at the top of the board is properly seated.

The single DIMM should be installed in DDR4_1...  farthest from the CPU on right

Test using display port or HDMI to a 24in or less display. If you have another HDMI cable to test with try both.  Borrow a monitor or cable if needed.

To sum up, nope still nothing. Identical issue with both boards still with all suggestions tried. One thing that does concern me is there is no beep when powering on which says to me that its not even reaching post.

Any other ideas? Really doing my head in as I have £200 worth of boards that turn out to be worthless.

Any help is thanked for in advance.
