Gigabyte Z97P-D3: weird ticking / slow shutdown / Power issue?
« on: October 21, 2015, 02:26:14 pm »
Hi, got a new Z97P-D3 just last week, Rev 1.1 and more info:

Rev = 1.1

1.) Since I installed Windows 10 yesterday, today a weird ticking noise started out of the blue. Machine wasn't under any stress. I can't really make out what causes it. Anyone recognise this sound? https://youtu.be/unMwxLvLuhc

2.) Sometimes it takes ages to shut down, after Windows has closed and even the screen goes on standby

3.) Sometimes power is still on even when system is shut down (phone charges via usb/ mouse light still glows).

Especially the ticking concerns me loads. I cannot make out if it is my old HDD dying or if it has something to do with powermanagement. I have a feeling for the latter due to the power symptons and I did not feel anything clicking/ticking inside the HDD.
It happens irregularely and stops after a reboot. Again, during light workload. None of the fans are being touched by wires or anything.

Hope you guys can give me a hand with this, cheers.

disconnect one thing at a time like video card then hard drive then cpu fan. Sounds metallic so I would go that route first.  When you disconnect cpu fan it will come up with a message that it isn't detected and to continue hot like f2 don't run it long. disconnect system fans one at a time and narrow it down.  Best advice I can give.  It does sound like a fan though and even if it doesn't do it all the time doesn't mean it isn't.  My first bet is hard drive you can get a  stethoscope cheap at auto parts store and open it up and narrow it down also.
