Computer keeps freezing up

Computer keeps freezing up
« on: October 09, 2015, 09:03:15 pm »
I have a new computer with the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 6 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard, HIS IceQ X² Boost Radeon R9 270X H270XQM2G2M 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card, CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i Extreme Performance Water/Liquid CPU Cooler. 240mm,  G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model, and AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7 GHz Socket AM3+ 220W FD9590FHHKWOF Desktop Processor - Black Edition, and it keeps freezing up. Sometimes it will go an hour or more until it freezes and other times it won't even boot all the way before it freezes, however it is starting to freeze faster and faster to the point that I can't even update windows now. It runs fine in safe mode and never freezes while in safe mode. I have tried reinstalling windows 7 2 times, and I tried Ubuntu but still had the same problems. I ran a stress test and everything passed, I ran Memtest and everything passed. I tried using a video card from a friends computer and that didn't help. I even tried swapping out the motherboard with an identical new one and that didn't work. Operating temps all stay between 30-50c. The only things I haven't replaced or tried is new RAM, new hard drive, or a new CPU. Not sure what to try next.

I hope you do not overclock your box? - just make sure all bios settings are on AUTO and ram is on the proper XMP profile. If the system was assembled by a dealer have the shop check it out.

Install the latest bios and keep an eye on CPU/GPU temperatures under load

What's the PSU brand/wattage

I have the Rosewill ARC-750 ARC Series 750W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Single +12V Rail Intel 4th Gen CPU SLI and CrossFire Ready Power Supply.

CPU temp under load stays at 33c and the GPU under load stays at 50c.

I have the latest bios installed and the settings are on auto.

I have Rev. 3. I tried a new HD and that didn't fox the problem as well. Out of ideas. Only thing I can think of is RAM but that tested fine with memtest or processor but that tested fine when I tested it. Not sure where to go to from here.

rev 3 does not support 220w processors check out the cpu support list.

rev 4 does your vrm cooling is not up to it from what I gather with a rev 3.

That chip isn't called the motherboard killer for no reason :-)

What bios version do you have? You need F3 for that CPU to work.
