GA-Z170X-Gaming 7-EU: HDMI 2.0 FW Update Tool
« on: December 11, 2015, 04:21:53 pm »
Hi,

Has anyone owning Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 tried to use 'HDMI 2.0 FW Update Tool' from Gigabyte website? Were you able to update Megachips firmware with it? I'm getting an error (I attached Screenshot01.png):

Code: [Select]
System connecting ... failed!
Firmware updating can't be started!
Please shut down system for a while and restart it!

I'm using built-in Intel GPU. I have all the drivers up to date. BIOS version F6f (same was on F5). I also tried to run it on completely newly installed Win10 64bit, the same issue. I also installed temporarily external AMD graphics, different kind of errors appeared but still I wasn't able to finish the update (check Errors.jpg).
Please share your experiences.

Greetings,
When you first tried to update, which port were you connected to?  Display Port or HDMI?

What is the display device?  Monitor or LCD flat panel (Brand, model, etc)

Is your Display 2.0 compliant?  Is your cable 2.0 compliant?

Granted your second attempt using a dedicated GPU should have allowed you to update, but something is different than what the others who were successful are using.  Might just be a wrong combination of drivers, INF, Display.  If you don't have a 2.0 compliant cable/display, there is no need to upgrade from 1.2, 1.4(a) support.

Hi,

My first attempt was with connected Display Port, this is what I currently use. Display device is Dell 2407wfp, it has only DVI so I use DVI to DP adapter. I tried also with DVI to HDMI adapter but the problem is the same.
I'm aware I'm not using HDMI 2.0 compliant display now but I'd like to be able to update Megachips firmware anyway.
It seems I'm not alone with this issue and people with different configurations has the same.

I think you are right about that.  I hate to say it, but  I think this might turn out to be another "feature" implemented on the z170 boards rushed to market, without enough testing.
