Z170MX Gaming 5: no NVME config
« on: January 21, 2016, 04:54:19 pm »
I have updated the bios to F4e and installed a Samsung 950 Pro M.2. I am able to boot off of it but their is no configuration in the Bios. Is or will this be an issue?

What OS did you put on it? Plus it is there under your sata config. If you put windows 7, 8 ,or 10 on it with UEFI you boot from a boot manager. It more likely will not show up in the boot option.

Windows 10 and it is not under the sata config after the 5th sata port. The option is all together missing. I cloned the M.2 drive from a samsung 850 ssd drive using the samsung magician program then removed the ssd. How do I know it is running on the PCiE protocol?

It is running from the M2 port right so it has to be running for the PCiE protocol. Did you look in the nvme config. So far people have to had the driver for that drive for things to show up.

Where is the nvme config that you are asking me to look at? In the manual for this board it says that it is under peripherals/Sata Config. It however is not there, am I to be looking elsewhere? What driver are you referring to? There is no driver for the drive on samsungs web site, I have uploaded all the sata and intel rapid storage technology driver, the only one i have not installed is the pre-install intel sata driver. Is that the one you are referring to (the one you install when you load windows)?

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.

I have the same motherboard and SSD and can confirm I have no configuration menu in the BIOS either. From F4e onwards it seems to have been removed. Even with F4 it was blank. It doesn't seem to affect anything so I'm not overly concerned.

There's not really much to configure with the M.2 SSD though I wish there was a BIOS option to disable it altogether for those occasions when you might want to install Windows to another drive without it assuming you want to dual boot with the OS installed on the M.2 SSD. I really don't fancy removing the M.2 drive from the board every time I wish to play around with the latest Windows 10 Insider update on another drive.

It is the last one on the list in Peripherals.

NVMe Configuration

You might have to ask support about that one. It is there on my Z170x gaming 3 board.
