Problem with GA-Z170-HD3P rev. 1 wouldn't start up correctly!

Hello everybody,

I build up a system with a i5-6600K and 16GB RAM from G.Skill (F4-2400C15D-16GNT) which is considered in the officially database of Gigabyte.

Unfortunately the system won't power up correctly. It powers up and runs for a 2-3 seconds then shuts down and powers back up agina. After 4 times the system runs but never with a video signal from graphic card as well as from the onboard card.

I tried also to change the two RAM bar to other slots from the same color. The PSU delivers a maximum power of 500W which should be enough for the system set up! I cannot give any information about the bios version due to the lack that I never saw it on the screen.

Do you've an idea what could it be the problem?

There is only two things to look at your memory try just one stick. The other is look at you CPU socket for bent pins. Plus I know it says it will run 2400 memory. But there is a lot people have the same problem.

The CPU only supports 2133 memory. Yes it should run it at default setting 2133. But like I said a lot can't get it to boot with 2400. Plus all the other memory has to be over clock that is why it says DDR4-2400(oc).

I tried it out  to use only on RAM bar in one slot but without success! There were also no pin bent in the socket! Is there a recommendation for a memory model which should work  properly with my configuration? Does it make sense to test RAM bars with 2133 speed? But which one?

I have the same problem but a infinite loop with a incompatible ram.
Now i ordered the same ram as u since its offically supported and it will arrive tomorrow.
Can't say i have high hopes for my system to work after reading your thread 
Do have a speaker connected to get an error beep code from the board?
Have u contacted the gigabyte customer service?

The "Qualified Vendors List" goes up to 3400~3466MHz DDR4 ram. At least for me this says the board will work with any ram i pick from the list. If it doesn't work either the list is crap or the board doesn't work as it's supposed to do.

Well lets see how if my system will work tomorrow or not.

I have a Z170-gaming 3 board. I did get it to boot with ADATA XPG Z1 2400 16GB (4 x 4GB). I even updated the bios to F5b. Still didn't run at the 2400 speed. But it did run at the 2133 speed.

Tried different setups in the bios and no go. When back to F4 bios put is 2133 memory everything runs fine. Plus one other thing is not all memory is XMP Certified. Yes XMP memory will run in non-xmp board. Non-xmp memory will run in a xmp board.

That is one thing motherboard companies don't tell you about XMP & NON-XMP memory. When you go to like Newegg and look at a board it doesn't tell you that. All it tells you that you can use memory 2133 & 2400(oc) to 3800(oc)

Allows the BIOS to read the SPD data on XMP memory module(s) to enhance memory performance when enabled.

(Note 2) This item is present only when you install a CPU and a memory module that support this feature.

At least your ram works @2133Mhz. I am not about there is a 3200Mhz ram listed
so it has to run @3200Mhz but i expect it to run stable at default settings.
If this means the 2400Mhz ram has to run at 2133Mhz so be it.

I would like to know if your system started without issues after you put the components together
or used some other ram to configure your bios before plugging your adata ram or something like that.

I didn't have any problem with my board other then it wouldn't run the 2400 at 2400. It did start at 2133. With one stick of memory too. Again these boards should run any DDR4 memory. But to run in XMP mode you need the kind of memory.

Nok on wood I have build a lot of computers and really never had not too many not boot. Every mother board I have to install. I always boot them on the box they come with or on a test station.

So I came back with a new update! After beeing very frustrating with this error I decided to switch to another MB. It's from another manufacturer too. It has a debug lamp with error code which is called debug mode. Anyway, the problem is still the same, the boot loop ist still there. The error code indicates a problem with the cpu! So it means it has nothing to do with the MB itself. The question now is it better to change the CPU or the Memory? Threads in other forums also points the problem to the memory and not to the CPU
