Boot Loop with GA-Z170-HD3P
« on: January 15, 2016, 05:31:11 pm »
Hello!

My new computer components arrived today but i cant get them to work.
Here is my System:
Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P
Intel Core I5-6600K
2x8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2400
be quiet! Pure Power L8 CM 530W
+ my old GTX560ti

when i try to boot my computer it starts to loop 5 (in my opinion long) beeps -> shuts down -> turns on itself and again 5 beeps -> shuts down and so on. No signal on my monitor.
I unpluged every harddisk, ssd and other unnecessary components.
Same loop with or without plugged ram.
I cant even find this beep code (5 long beeps) anywhere on the internet.
I read many similar topics but none had either a solution that worked for me or most even hadn't a solution.
I checked the offical compatibility list from gigabyte before ordering my stuff and my ram is definetly listed there.
I am thinking about getting another mainboard but since this will happen next week i am willing to try to get
this system to work.
Any help appreciated.
Regards sbt

Update:
Compared my ram with the list again. Seems i pasted the false product id so the ram
i bought is not compatible with this mainboard.  :-[
close this thread plz

If you are going to get new memory just get 2133 because you are not going to see performance boost. Plus try one stick and make sure it is seeded right in the slot. I hate the new slots very hard to get the memory in.

One other thing look at your CPU socket to make sure you don't have any bent pins.

funny thing is
These 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2400 DIMM CL16 Single BLS8G4D240FSA are supported
16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2400 DIMM CL16 Dual Kit BLS2C8G4D240FSA are not.

I ordered those now
16GB G.Skill Value 4 DDR4-2400 DIMM CL15 Dual Kit F4-2400C15D-16GNT
and i triple checked that they are on this damn
"Qualified Vendors List (QVL), Model Name: GA-Z170-HD3P"

Should i expect some problems because its 2400 again?
Or will it just be the non-existent performance boost?
I can still change my order *fingers crossed*  8)

One other thing look at your CPU socket to make sure you don't have any bent pins.

Since i am using a be quiet! Shadow Rock 2 (this thing is so big and annoying to mount/demount)
i will try the other ram before anything else.
Does it happen that often that pins bent while mounting the cpu?
I read that a lot in other threads so i really wonder.
Otherwise its really easy to see those pins on my old phenom 2 but for this new cpu
they are freakin small and hard to examine.

Most of the times with the pins it is that way when you get it. I have been building computers for over 20 yrs and have never bent a pin. I'm old school and when it comes to memory I have always gone with what the CPU supports.

With a home computer it is really a waste of time using fasting memory. If you could find some memory with lower timings vs higher speed you would really be better off. To me any thing over 16 gbs of memory or faster memory is more bragging rights than any thing.

There is really no difference between 16 gb and 128 gb of memory. You will get about the same benchmark # from the both of them.

Got the other ram today. System runs smoothly now and even the xmp profile works.

Hi, I'm having very similar problem (same 5 long beeps and restart) with ballistix sport 2x8gb 2400 and a GA Z170XP SLI mobo. Where did you check compatibility? I googled but I can't find a ram compatibility list anywhere.

Got the other ram today. System runs smoothly now and even the xmp profile works.

I have exactly the same configuration of GA-Z170-HD3P and ballistix sport 2x8gb 2400. (and also the same problem)

The shipping box said BLS2C8G4D240FSA and memory module itself BLS8G4D240FSA.16FADG 2400 MHZ 16-16-16-39. The 2C difference is most likely due to the fact that I bought them as a 16 GB kit (2 x 8)

However, in the memory support list the timings are different for the type of memory: 16-16-16-40.

Could the difference between 16-16-16-40 or 16-16-16-39 causing the problem?
Or the difference in .16FADG on my memory module and not specifically mentioned in support list?

Another post on http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2875752/newly-built-computer-gigabyte-motherboard-starts-seconds-restarts-endlessly.html also describes weird problem with these Crucial modules.

I will get some other memory modules today and see what happens.

Exchanged memory with Kingston 2 x 8 GB, 2133 Mhz: Kingston HyperX Fury HX421C14FBK2/16
I am now able to boot the system.

People the CPU will only support the 1866 / 2133. Putting in 2400, 2666, 3000. Will not make you computer running any faster.

That supports XMP and the other memory didn't.
