Z170XP-SLI: Unable to use 4 slots of RAM
« on: January 13, 2016, 01:46:27 pm »
Hello,

I have a setup with Intel 6600K on Z170XP-SLI and HyperX Fury Black 4x4GB.
When trying to install Windows with 4 RAMs on board, get blue screens of death constantly before the first screen shows up or shortly after its appearance. While when I put only two on dual channel (any two of 4) everything is ok. It passes the MemTest.
Following this post Z170XP-SLI : Unable to use all 4 Ram slots I updated the BIOS to F6e, but still have the same problem. Tried Setting Timing to manual, but don't know what to do later. Tried both with XPM disabled and Profile1.

Do I need specifically BIOS version F4C?
Don't know what to try else. Do you have any idea?

Thank you in advance.

Your memory control is in the CPU. So check to see if you might have a bent pin in the CPU socket.

Checked the pins, no bent pins. Everything is all right.

What about BIOS setup?! Any special configurations for 4 slots?

See what the volts is on the memory and see what it is reading at in the bios. Maybe you can bump it a little bit. Plus what is the model # on the memory.

So, voltage on memory should be 1.2. Set manually to 1.16 and 1.1, no help, fails memtest. Tried increasing tRAS from 35 to 36, on both channels, didn't help. Tried changing tRFC from 278 to 279 and 300, no difference. Tried setting Command Rate to (3 default is 2), failed to boot. Desperately changed Latency, tRCD, tRAS to 15-15-15 for both channels, didn't help(values on device are 14-14-14).

RAM Model is HX421C14FBK4/16.

UPDATE:

If the memtest is done with parallel cpu configuration I get first errors on Test2 [Address test], while using one I get first errors on Test 4 [Moving inversions].

Maybe this can be of some hit where the problem is hidden.

Yes it could be if you are getting errors than you could have some bad memory.

So I didn't find a solution to this problem. Tried different versions of bios but no result. So, I replaced my HyperX Fury Black 4x4GB with HyperX Fury Black 2x8GB and didn't got any BSODs afterwards.

Gigabyte please take a look at this problem!
