Help! White Noise on Gaming 7 / Sound Blaster Recon 3Di

Hey, I am looking for suggestions on how to fix this white noise.

EDIT: This is earphones specific.. just tested a soundbar via aux cable from rear jack and there's no white noise at all.

It is my first PC build with Windows 10 64-bit, the Z170X Gaming 7, i5 6600k and GTX 970 and this is one of the niggles that I can't seem to fix.

I have a 'soft' white noise via headphones. The white noise is a bit worse via the case front jack and a little better via the motherboard jack at the rear but still there.

The white noise does not change at all when volume changes or I mute.

Playback devices shows:
Speakers
Sound Blaster Recon 3Di
Default Device

As my first build it would not surprise me if this is something physical inside the case, interference etc.. but I am happy to try anything. I would not know what could interfere.

When music is playing etc I have noticed the earphone volume is extremely loud, with volume over 30 being pretty much unbareable, which doesn't sound right to me either. I haven't found anything anywhere to suggest something is turned up to 100 etc.. so I am stumped.

Motherboard gain type switch looks like [2-1] is on the right hand-side set to 1.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
