Hi Smitty,

Code 43 doesn't help much as according to Microsoft it states:
Quote
Code 43
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
Recommended resolution

One of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed in some manner.

If you have already run the Troubleshooting Wizard, you might want to check the hardware documentation for more information about diagnosing the problem.
here's a link to Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123

The problem might not be the driver as such, more that there is a problem with the hardware and rather than cause any damage to the system Windows has stopped it from working.

So what do you suggest?  The replacement is on the way.  When I get it, do I plug it in the right way, and have it not be seen, or plug it in backwards, have it be seen, but not find drivers for it??

BTW, my buddy is convinced the driver issue is because I'm running x64.  He thinks the 32 bit version of windows would probably find drivers that work.  But if I downgrade to 32 bit, I lose my 16GB of RAM.

Can you post a picture of the wiring diagram for the USB connector on the Multi Function Control Panel Smitty?

If you can do that I might be able to tell you which way to plug it in and which pins to use on the USB header on the motherboard.

I sent the picture to my SmugMug site, but it's taking forever to process and I have to leave for work now.  I assume to upload an image to this forum, it has to be hosted offsite.  So I'll try again later.

IT WORKS!!  Or I should say the replacement works.  I RMA'd the inoperative one and got an identical replacement.  I made sure (triple checked) that I plugged the USB cable in correctly.  Turned the PC back on, Windows recognized it and loaded the drivers.  I plugged a CF card into it and the little green light lit up.  I went to My Computer and there it was!  I clicked on it and all the photos were intact.  I don't know if the previous sample was defective, or if I fried it by plugging in the USB cable wrong.  The important thing is after 3 tries, I now have a working internal card reader.  Thanks for everybody's support in trying to resolve this issue.  Even if it probably (likely) was caused by a screwup on my side, I know I can count on you guys to offer a hand.

Hi Smitty,

pleased it's now sorted and working properly. And, just in time for all those X-Mas photos you are going to be taking too!!
