GA Z97P D3 boot issues caused by 1866Mhz DDR3?
« on: April 02, 2016, 02:27:19 pm »
Hi!
Fresh PC install here. Continous short beeps on start. Checked a lot of things. I have a 2x4Go 1866Mhz native DDR3 sticks. The computer will only boot when only one (any one) stick is inserted in the 4th row. Is that related to the native 1866Mhz DDR3 that is not supported? Or a mobo issue that need repairs?
Thank you

The 4th or the one near the power plug is the #1 slot. From the CPU the slots are 4-3-2-1. The memory should be in slot 1 & 3. The CPU really only supports 1600 memory. Any thing over that you have to as they say OC the memory.

Support for DDR3 3000(O.C.) / 2933(O.C.) / 2800(O.C.) / 2666(O.C.) / 2600(O.C.) / 2500(O.C.) / 2400(O.C.) / 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 2000(O.C.) / 1866(O.C.) / 1800(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 MHz memory modules

Thanks for the slots number update. My stick was in slot 1 then. After a few tests it turns out the PC can boot with both sticks in slots 1 and 2. It won't boot with sticks in 4/2 or 1/3 (continous beeps). So that means no dual channel. If cpu cant handle 1866mhz ddr the question is why does it boot when ddr is plugged in slots 1 and 2?

I guess the only way to solve this is to change my 1866 ddr for 1600?

All memory that is made by default is 1333 or 1600 what every the CPU support. The CPU that supports 1866 or 2133 will run at till you OC. You 1866 will run at 1333 or 1600 by default. So that is why it boots. Now the thing is do you have a bent pin in the CPU socket. The memory controller is in the CPU. So I would look at the CPU socket.

Do you suggest that the cpu socket could be "physically" damaged? I will check but could that explain the fact that dual channel is not workin? Cause the only way i can have 2 sticks to work together is to put them on first and second rows. Thx
