M.2 Sata Issue

M.2 Sata Issue
« on: May 05, 2016, 01:18:40 pm »
I am building a MiniITX PC. I have the GA-Z170N Gaming 5 Motherboard. My only SSD is a Samsung 850 Evo M.2 SSD, which is a SATA drive and not PCIe. I have it installed on the m.2 slot on the back of the motherboard.

My BIOS is not detecting this SSD at all. It is also not showing up in the Windows 10 installer either.

Are there settings I need to change in the BIOS?

I have tried removing the SSD and re-installing it into the slot.

I submitted a ticket to Gigabyte but have yet to hear back. Any idea how I can get the motherboard to find this SSD?

When installing windows 10 and it get to the parts where it says install driver then you have to install the driver for that M2 card.

The only downloads I could find for this Samsung drive are Data Migration Tool and Magician Software: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/MZ-N5E500BW

Neither of these are recognized as drivers when installing windows.

Also tried all of the Gigabyte z170n drivers here with no luck: http://ca.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5529&dl=1&RWD=0#driver

The driver can be installed using either of the following methods:
• Use the SetupNVMe.exe file for auto installation.
• Use the Windows setup file (NVMe.inf) for manual installation in the Device Manager.
※ The default driver is the inbox driver in the OS. The provision of available drivers depends on the product.
Installing the Driver in Windows OS – SetupNVMe.exe
1. Turn the power on and log onto the system with the admin account.
2. Copy the driver file package to the installation folder.
3. Double-click the Setup.exe file, and then click according to the driver installation guide.
※ The distributed package format may be changed.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for this. I will try this after work. These instructions show the installation happening in Windows, and not the installer, but I will try to to install this driver when it asks me to locate drivers to install in Custom Windows installation.

Unfortunately this did not work either.
