GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 Won't turn on with new HyperX memory

Proc: Intel i7
Bios : F10 (latest)
OS: Win 7 Pro 64-bit

Memory specs of Mobo:

• 4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 32 GB of system memory
  * Due to Windows 32-bit operating system limitation, when more than 4 GB of physical memory is installed, the actual memory size displayed will be less than 4 GB.
• Dual channel memory architecture
• Support for DDR3 2133/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules
• Support for non-ECC memory modules
• Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules

Came as a package which included:
Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL9

Even though that says 1.65V
I've doubled it so it's 4x4Gb - 16Gb

I recently bought:
2 x https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00J8E910Y/
(HyperX Fury 16 GB (2x 8 GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM)
So 4 x 8Gb
So taking it up to the max of 32Gb
This is 1.5V as per mobo spec

Whatever I try - the PC won't power up with the new modules.
No Bios screen
No beeps
Switches on and spins things up - but second or so later restarts.
Will do this continuously until I switch off.

Tried:

• Memory: Re-seated.
• Bios: Setting Memory to standard/Auto rather than XMP Profile 1
• Bios: Loading optimised defaults (+changing SATA back to RAID(XHD)
• Memory: Just 2 sticks
• Memory: Just 1 stick
• Memory: put old ones in - works.

There are no 8Gb modules in the compatibility list even though Mobo should support it.

Any suggestions ?
Manually set Bios to 1.5V ?
I'm weary of manually setting all values to new ram as worried it may then not work with the existing.

Edit: Seen HyperX Fury are not XMP but PnP - might I need to configure them manually while old ones are in (so I get to Bios)

If I put GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 into: Kingston + Corsair memory selector - gives me max 4Gb Simms.....

G.Skill - does list some 8Gb Simms.
May look to send the HyperX's back

Yes it does say that, but you have to OC the memory to run at any thing over 1600. You CPU really only supports 1333 & 1600 memory. If you put in 1066 to 2133 there really is no speed boost. If you are not using the computer for doing video editing anything over 8gb is not bring used. 

Yes the memory should boot at the default settings at 1333. Is the memory on their list. "NO" So what I would do return the memory and get what you are using now. Plus if you have 16gb in there now and everything is running good I would stay with that.

I have used 8gb, 16gb, & now 32gb in my computer. Right at this time I have 32gb and out of that memory only about 4gb is being used. Even if I got it to use 8gb that 24gb isn't being used. I'm not telling you not to go to 32gb. It is up to each person on how to run their computer.

But we all are falling into the catch 22 on all this stuff. If we are really only using it to play games and go on the internet really any thing over 8gb is really a waste of time. Here is a couple of videos to watch.

I do indeed do some video editing.
Primarily picture editing from 36Mpx Raw files in batches, but occasionally video using Adobe Premiere Pro. I have been keeping an eye on memory usage during batch editing - and Photoshop/camera raw has been using 12Gb+ (as much as I allow it)

I have been overclocking (Mainly CPU from x35 to x47) - but reset to "optimised default" when this memory wasn't working.
The previous memory was only clocked using the XMP profile1, not manually.


I don't believe the suggested Memory list has been maintained as there are no 8Gb simms on it at all!

List also states: Memory modules listed below are for reference only. Due to massive memory models on the market, we can only verify some of them.
So in itself - not being on the list isn't a total deal breaker.


Am considering sending these back to amazon and getting some G.skill which are XMP compatible and which do get returned by their selector tool. As I bought the HyperX at a good price - would be a shame.

Have you actually tried setting the memory Frequency to 1333Mhz?

1 Old Stick + 1 New Stick
Set to 1333Mhz Save&Exit.
Turn off
Remove Old stick.

Power on and see if it works, if no change consider returning it.
And have you actually tried all 4 new ones on their own?

I've not set any manual setting for memory in the Bios.
I was worried of it not working with my existing sticks as fall back.
Guess I could always try + reset the Cmos if it doesn't work.

It might not work and usually what happens when you take memory out is the BIOS auto detects the new one so all settings go back to default <Which wont work if the new sticks are trying to run at 1866Mhz.

I have almost the same board and it had 4 sticks of memory in it 16gb. I had two different brands of 8gb sticks total 32gb. The speed and timings were all the same. I put them in and it booted in to windows 32gb of memory.

But like I said that I never waste my time on faster memory no real boost. I have been doing this for 35 yrs. Not all memory will run on some boards no matter what you try. I just ran into that the other day.

Again like I said it is up to the person what they want to do. But you really not going to see a difference in 1600 vs 1866.

After manually setting the memory speed (System Memory Multiplier(SPD) ) to 1600  (set 1333 initially with old memory then moved up) it worked on 1 stick and then all!
Tried it on 1866 (new memory) - no go.

Maybe I could look to overclock the memory up to 1866, but as various people have suggested - benefits would likely be minimal, plus not currently sure how to do this.

Bought the memory in a good deal (£90 for 32Gb - most decent memory is £120+ either 1600 or higher) so am not overly bothered about it not reaching it's full potential.

Now to overclock my CPU back up again.

Damn - not without it's issues though.

If the system crashes due to Overclock stability issues - it won't boot/reach bios again with the new mem.
Seems to remember the 16.00 memory multiplier - but still won't boot.

May try a few setting to reach stability - but I can't be swapping memory all the time.

May consider returning + looking for XMP if it continues.

When I was looking for memory, I looked at the Gigabyte memory list for my motherboard and couldn't find what I wanted.

So I went in the other direction and did a google search of the the GSkill website like this (You would substitute your motherboard name "GA-Z68X-UD5-B3"):

Then I copied those results, did some regular expression search and replace, sorted the results and chose my memory preferring higher frequency to CAS Latency ratio, and also a module size of 16 GB, so that two will match my old system and I can upgrade to 4 in the future.

Actually, GSkill has a RAM Configurator where you can enter your motherboard and get a list of DIMMs (you already knew that):

So I would take those results and do the same regular expression search and replace and sorting. You can add $/GB if that's a concern during your sorting but you have to get the prices elsewhere (maybe do a merge of two tables).

which are XMP compatible - worked straight away
