Designare EX GPU placement

Hello, I'm very interested in purchasing the x -99 designare EX for my custom watercooling build later this season and the one thing bothering me is the placement of the first x16 pci-e slot. I've seen pictures from computex having the gpu in the second slot x16 slot but I feel the gpu would be "too far down" and since I have a backplate on my gpu I don't think I can put it in the first slot since the white I/O armor would be pressing against it.
