Impossible to get 4 memory stick on Z170X Gaming 3
« on: August 28, 2016, 02:29:36 am »
Hi everyone,

I just assembled a new computer today and I have an issue.
When i try to put the four memory sticks and try to boot, I get 5 long beep and it reboots

When i put only two of them( I tried all 4, multiple combination), either on 1/3 or 2/4, I boot normally.

Here is what I have :
Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3
CPU : I7 6700k
Memory : Trying to put 4x 8Gb Kingston HyperX FURY  2666MHz DDR4 Non-ECC CL15
Operating system : Windows 10 Family

Does someone know why ? and how to make it work ?

They working at default settings at 2133 or you trying to run them at 2666? If they work at 2133 you might have update the bios.

In theory it should run faster when set at 2666, but in the real world it really doesn't. The 2666 is really not running any faster than the 2133. All memory has a default setting. Any thing you run in a Z170 series board it's base clock speed is 2133.

These boards have had a lot of problems with memory. One other thing is that memory is design to run on X99 boards not Z170 boards. That could be part of the problem. Today memory is being made to run only the board it is design to run on.

Hello,

Now that it is working at 2133Mhz with the 4 sticks try enabling the XMP setting in the BIOS.
