Z170-HD3P - 4 DIMMS only working 2133Mhz
« on: December 12, 2016, 11:38:05 am »
Hello!

Recently purchased second 2x4GB 2400Mhz DDR4 kit to my system, and It didn't boot when memory was on 2400Mhz. Put memory speed to 2133MHz and all good now. Even with XMP setting it put my ram to 2133Mhz instead of 2400.

Is this normal when all slots are used? Working fine with two sticks.

Memory is Crucial Ballistix 2400MHz LT 16-16-16-39-2T if I remember correctly.
CPU: 6600K

Have you tried a bios update to F5. Don't do F20 because people are having problems with it. Plus it is really only for a CPU upgrade. The other thing is run it at 2133 or 2400 you will not see any changes in speed.

One more thing is the memory you just got. Is it the same brand & part # as the memory you were using?
X299X Aorus Master, i9-9940x-3.30Ghz, 64gb G-Skill DDR4-2400, MSI RTX-3070 8GB, Cooler Master case, Thermal-take PSU 850w, 1-M2-NMVe SSD-512gb, 3-Pny 1TB SSD, 2-WD Raptors 1TB, Win 10 pro 64bit, Asus 35" 144Mhz Monitor.

I am using F5 bios. Memory is exact the same kit which is the first one. Running now it 21.33x multiplier with XMP profile. It is running with 2400Mhz's timings though, but shouldn't be any difference in real life situations as gaming, so i haven't tried to tighten timings with 2133..

Running multiple kits can cause the PC to be unable to boot or to be unable to operate at rated specifications. A work around to using multiple kits is to lower the memory clock speed.

Memory manufacturers make no guarantees that such combinations will work at all.
1) GA-Z97X-Gaming 7, G3258,
2) GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 1.1, FX-8350
3) GA-AM1M-S2P, Sempron 3850 Kabini

Thank you for clearing this thing out!

I would test the memory sticks indvidlualy to see if they can clock to 2400 speed. Also you can try increasing the Vccio and Vccsa then try XMP.

Vccio Stock Intel 0.960v changed to 1.165v
Vccsa (System Agent) stock Intel 1.060v changed to 1.248v
