Gigabyte Z170N-WIFI Windows Issues

Hello,

my system is running an i7 6700k, 1x16GB DDR4 2400 HyperX Fury, Corsair GS700W psu, EVGA GTX 460.
I have tried everything I've read online so far but nothing seems to work. When turning on the computer I get to the starting windows screen and then right before it makes the "splash" it goes into a one second blue screen of death before it resets and does this in a continuos loop, when I try running safemode while it is loading the files it turns off. I have tried a different hard drive and it behaves the exact same way, I had this hard drive running on my old system and I've tried them both on my old system so that's ruled out of the question.. I also ran a memory test to make sure my ram modules are fine. I checked in the bios and both cpu and memory speed are where they should be at. CPU temperature looks good. around 28C. Haven't been able to figure out what could be happening. Plugged in a USB to try to boot from but it doesn't recognize it. I would really appreciate some new ideas to try to get my system running. Hello,

If you have not enabled the XMP setting give this a go and see if it improves.
No change with this, set the DRAM frequency to 2133Mhz and test.

Thanks for the reply! I tried this just now to no avail.. I believe it may have something to do with the computer not being able to access my ssd/hdd  I got this picture of my blue screen of death that happens everytime it loops
I got a 0x000007b blue screen after disabling automatic restart on system failure

There are a couple of possibilities here.  Your BSOD doesn't state Inaccessible Boot Device error.  This would be a missing or corrupt driver for the controller operate mode you are using.  Hardware failure is secondary.

7b can also be caused by software corruption, or application error.  You mentioned that it occurs at the end of POST during handoff to the OS.  This would be when the video driver takes over with the OS Loader.  That is an old video card you are using.  Do you have something more recent to test with? 

Just to confirm memory wise.  You have 2x8GB correct? Not 1x16GB single DIMM.  Can't imagine this would work.   

Can you tell us about the disks, brand/models?  Did you perform a fresh install of windows 10 on both for testing? Or were they "pulled' from another machine.  Windows is robust, but lets not give MS that much credit.   

You also mentioned after checking BIOS that memory and CPU settings are "where they should be".  Meaning where you want them or are you using defaults, automatic settings?  If you are doing any OC, please stop, revert to default and retest.  Using XMP for the memory as ElectroStingz suggests is fine.       

How many disks are connected to the system?  Just boot drive, etc?  Anything else connected besides a mouse, keyboard and speakers?

The more info you can provide, the easier it might be for us to help.

I have a sandisk ssd plus 240gb and a Hitachi 500gb 5400rpm hard drive 2.5". I do have a single 16gb ram module since I was thinking of upgrading to 32gb once I have the means to. I have tested with Onboard graphics with similar results. Both the ssd and hdd have windows 7 loaded on there I tried a windows 10 isolated but I get a disk error when booting from the usb.

If you didn't install Windows using the new motherboard and are trying to boot into an old installation performed on a completely different motherboard you can get such problems.

Go for a clean install + wipe the drive out during the installer.

He was, a clean install after reformatting my ssd did the trick. Thank you guys. As I proceeded to install the usb 3.0 drivers my  mouse and keyboard stopped working so I had to reinstall windows. All of the ports on my computer are usb 3.0 I don't have 2.0 to plug my mouse and keyboard to. Something else that's really bugging me is that my mouse seems very laggy since I installed it into systems. Fps feel like I can't turn or aim as accurately and it's really turning me off from playing games. I feel as though it's due to my usb drivers, I have none installed since installing them makes me lose the ability to use my mouse and keyboard. I have installed windows intellipoint but to no avail.

I have the same MB, but I'm using PS2 mouse and kb.  No problems or lag issues.

Installed usb 3.0 drivers and let it sit for a while until my mouse started working again, thanks guys everything is working great now.
