GA Z170 HD3P lost all my SSD data
« on: November 25, 2016, 03:37:38 pm »
Hi all,

Very recently I bought a GA Z170 HD3P ver 1  mobo. My configuration is the following:
SSD ADATA SP600 259Gb  Win10 Pro x64
HYPER X  32Gb(4 DIMM) at 2133MHz
i7 6700K CPU
Gigabyte R9 280X video card
850W  psu.
I set up my pc and everything was running smoothly for a few days. One morning when I tried to swich on my pc a message appeared on screen saying that there was no operating system found. I went through BIOS and all hdd's and the ssd were detected. But it seems that Win10 were erased from my ssd.Tried to exchange SATA 's but no luck. I reinstall Win10, checked with Avast for viruses and used ADATA's utility to check the ssd. NO ERRORS AT ALL!!!!  Again everything was running OK until yesterday. On powering my pc on, the same message. And I reistalled win10 again.

Any ideas, suggestions please?!!

I think its unlikely your windows install is getting erased from the SSD.

Sounds more like a boot order or other BIOS setting issue.

How are you installing windows 10?

Ensure correct boot order
What Controller Operate Mode?
What OS option?
CSM mode?
Storage Boot Control Option?

These are the most common settings that might cause an operating system not found message when the BIOS is searching for boot devices.

I m installing windows from a dvd.. I took pc to a technician and he also did not manage to come to a solution. He checked the ssd and told me it was completely erased as if it was formated. I m having strong indications that a win10 update is causing the whole thing..The night before, on powering off, some windows10 updates installed. The next morning I was faced with the NO OS status... could that be a possibility?

Again unlikely. SSD & HDD's don't mysteriously format themselves.  There has to be another explanation. As a precaution, please replace the battery on your MB.

This will reset your BIOS.  Now disconnect all other disks.  Connect your DVD to SATA port 0 and connect the SSD to SATA port 1.  Refer to your manual if you are unsure which ports these are.  Now install windows.  Next install drivers ONLY for ANY MISSING devices in Device Manager.  Do not run "Install All" from the MB CD.  Windows will download additional drivers and updates as well.  You'll be restarting a few times.  Wait a few hours, and let us know what happens after another restart.
