« on: September 01, 2012, 11:36:55 pm »
Hi folks,

Just taken delivery of my GA-970A-DS3 Rev 1.0 motherboard & new AMD processor

Main Hardware Information:
CPU - AMD FX 4100 AM3+ 3.6GHz
RAM - 2 sticks of 8Gb 1333MHz DDR3 Cosair - CMX8GX3M2A1333C9
Motherboard - GA-970A-DS3 Rev 1.0
Video Card - 8600GT PCI-E 512Mb DDR2 TV-OUT 2DVI
PSU - Cosair TX650 650W

However I cant seem to get any video out or any POST beeps.
I've tried it on a wooden table , with 24 pin power connected , 4 pin ATX power , video card in , 1 stick of memory & processor.
Fans on CPU & video card start but no output at all.

Have I misssed something obvious ? Its really annoying me now & I dont like to be beaten :)

Thanks in advance for any help. It'll be much appreciated.
Cheers.

CPU not supported in the current BIOS version you have?

In fact a PC speaker (ie buzzer) would be a useful thing to have to confirm this

I agree with cchaos theory ,most probable the BIOS is not up to date.
You need a CPU from Phenom 2 /Athlon 2 series to update BIOS.Send it back to reseller to update it for you if you can t afford to buy one.

Karma for cchaos delivered :)

Sorry for the delay, was away on holiday for a bit.

Got my hands on an Athlon 2 chip & also a small speaker but still cant get even a beep of any description from it.
Tried the speaker on an old motherboard and with no RAM in I manage to get 3 beeps recurring so I know the speaker is working. I've tried it both ways round in new motherboard but not a peep.

Any suggestions before I send it back ?

Cheers for the help folks.

Hi there,

I have a similar problem to this..

I have scoured the web for help and emailed gigabyte support but no answer yet.

I am having a difficulty in getting a display via my new build pc. I can't get any sort of video output on the screen. I don't know what bios I have but the board is brand new and says it has the am3+ bios already installed on the box. It is a rev 1.0 board bought from ebuyer 3 days ago.

As far as I can see I have wired everything up correctly. My graphics card is an ATI RADEON 4850 512mb. The fan spins on the graphics card ok but every few seconds the overheat protect LED shows up and the fan slows down for a second or less before getting back to normal speed. There is no sign of output at all on the screen.

I have tried another cheaper graphics card from another PC in the house. Still no output. However when I put my Radeon graphics card in the older PC I get a display on my monitor fine.

Any ideas? I have put in a new PSU (coolermaster 55ow decent psu) etc to make sure it was not a rubbish power supply. AMD FX6100 bulldozer chip with freezer pro rev 7 cooler. 2 x 4gb corsair vengance 1600 ram.

Hello,

As mentioned above, I am experiencing the same problems with a Gigabyte 970A-DS3P motherboard [MB] (Rev 2.0)

I have previously created a PC from scratch before using a previous Gigabyte MB and never had too much of an issue.
So I am hoping that the quality is still good as it was before. Also, I have a decent understanding of building PCs. Have experience on working on 3 PC's (including this one) and do my research before building the component list.

My Hardware Specs

Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P (Rev 2.0) Black & grey edition
CPU : AMD FX6300 (6 core) processor (AM3+ socket) Not overclocked. Standard clock. (3.4 GHZ approx)
CPU Cooler : Standard stock cooler, had problem with my purchased one. (Will be replaced once system works)
RAM :  2x 4GB HyperX FURY DDR3 memory at 1333 MHZ (8GB total)
Graphics Card (GPU) : Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 (1 GB DDR5) (draws power from MB)
Power Supply : 480w Generic Standard PSU.
SSD : Crucial BX100 SD Drive 250 GB
HDD : None installed at the moment
Optical Drives : Samsung DVD RW (Not connected as of yet)

I have connected all appropriate power supplies such as the 12V for the CPU, the ATX for the motherboard and the fan connectors for the CPU and system respectively.

I have connected my GPU (Graphics) into the first PCI Express slot (x16) and shows life with the fan operating. However, while connected via HDMI to my monitor, it does not show video/output/picture on the screen. My monitor goes back to sleep as it cannot detect a signal/input. I have tried to use an alternative connection but my graphics card does not support VGA and sadly, I realised that the motherboard doesn't have an on-board video chipset.
GPU card supports DVI, HDMI and another which I cannot recall.

The GPU comes from my previous build, which works fine, but just needed an update to meet today's and tomorrow's needs. So I know the GPU works well, plus it will also have the most updated firmware on the GPU (albeit, on an older MB). Worked last night without issues.

Is this a common problem with this MB regarding the video output?

I have done a few tests such as
1) Using only one RAM module and running it then
2) Reconnected all power cables to ensure I have inserted them fully and correctly
3) Disconnected my DVD drive and SDD to see if it is a power shortage (Nope, still have same problem)
4) MB & CPU boot up when graphics card is removed from MB (but of course, definitely no video)

I am not sure if the BIOS is outdated and requires updating. I was hoping that this MB was updated to an acceptable version to allow for accessing at least the POST (Power On Self Test) screen.

Am I missing anything to ensure I can at least access the BIOS start up screen?
I was thinking of doing the following and would like some advice.

1) Insert GPU into the other PCI Express slot (at 4x) to see if the 16x is faulty.
2) Clear the CMOS back to factory settings (be the first time I am doing this so please advise)

I appreciate your help and advice.

Tried using the graphics card on the PCI Express 4x but still no output.

Removed CPU and Heatsink to check positioning and re-inserted using fresh thermal paste and still using stock heatsink.
Seated great on the AM3+ socket and looks good to go. Locked with lever. No visible issue with this. CPU is compatible with MoBo. (AM3+ socket, checked on AMD site and Gigabyte Support page).

Does anyone have this motherboard and what PSU do you use with this? (Output: 450w/500w/550w etc).

Quite surprised that I am still struggling to get to the POST/BIOS screen.

Any support would be appreciated.

Maybe off topic, my motherboard is a ma790x-ds4. Was working 2 weeks ago, left it - flat battery.
Now no POST, but my PCI board which displays POST messages show F2 (briefly) then F5 longer time,
then the sequence repeats. I have tried battery out, reset CMOS etc. I have an idea that I can short a couple
of bios pins to enable bios recovery, but no idea which ones. Help appreciated, John
