GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0) SSD Installation Help

Hello i have a GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0) mobo. After years i want to improve my pc with a SSD drive (i've been using Sata III HDD). I'll use SSD as system drive and I'll use my old Sata 3 HDD as storage.

I've read a lot of topics about SSD is lagging on marvell Sata III port but there is no exact information, r/w speed benchmarks etc. about it.

I need your helps about using SSD with a GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0) mobo.

I'll be pleased if you make a step by step installation guide (HW, SW, drivers) and optimum settings for using SSD as fast as i can.

Also you can share your experiences like "using a SSD with this mobo is pretty useless" or etc.

I have Rev 1.0 of this motherboard, and have been using SSDs with it for years.  I have not noticed any speed issues, but I've not used any top-of-the-line SSDs.  If I were you, I'd just get a low-cost SSD, like one of the Crucial MX300 series.  Install only the default drivers, and don't sweat the small stuff.

If you really cared about "optimizing" hard drive speed, you'll need to look into a PCI-E SSD which is more expensive and likely more complicated to install on a board that old.  Specifically, you'll probably need a non-NVME drive.

AS far as I remember the Intel sata chip vs the Marvell chip you will really not see a big change on those boards. I would get a Reg SSD and connect to Intel sata port 0 and use the G-sata for 6gb storage. When you install the SSD make sure you have set to AHCI.

If you can find a SSD II drive it will match the Sata 2 Intel chipset. You can use a Sata 3 SSD but it will run Sata 2 speed. There really no difference between a SSD vs a hard drive. On how you connect them.

Like I said you want it be setup with AHCI. Plus the write & read speed will only double on the SSD vs the hard drive on those board. You will see a big performance boost vs the old hard drive.

Thanks for your both answers. I'm gonna buy a SSD. But i don't know which softwares must be installed.

There are a lot of drivers listed. What must i do to use the new SSD as system drive.

There is no soft to be added. All a SSD is a Hard Drive. Like I said in the bios just make sure you change from IDE to AHCI. Any thing that Kingston or San-disk makes you should be fine.

When you install windows and when you get to choose which drive you are looking to use. Just click on the SSD and then click on the New tab in the bottom left corner then click and ok it will setup you drive.

It will give you 2 partition. Click on the large one then click OK. If you just click on the SSD to start to install windows it more likely would put the system partition on another drive.
