GA-Z170X-UD3 BIOS F20 Clock Speeds
« on: November 16, 2016, 05:02:55 pm »
F20 was officially released for the new Kaby lake processors so I installed it.  I'm running an i7-6700k and I am noticing the following:

* My previous BIOS allowed my CPU to drop to 800Mhz.  This new BIOS only allows it to drop to 900Mhz.

* My previous BIOS allowed me to set 1-Core, 2-Core, 3-Core, and 4-Core clock speeds and they all worked as expected depending on load.  This new BIOS will only jump to the 4-Core clock speed.  For example:

I set 1-Core = 46, 2-Core = 45, 3-Core = 45, 4=Core = 44.  With my old BIOS I would see 4.6GHZ, 4.5Ghz, 4.4Ghz, and lower depending on load.  BIOS F20 never sees higher than 4.4Ghz with the same settings.

Has anyone else noticed behavior like this?

Greetings,
I'm sure you are aware that latest isn't always best.  I hope your intention is to upgrade since you flashed a BIOS with microcode intended for next gen CPU.

It might be possible for you to go back, but i haven't confirmed this.  My board has a similar behavior.  BIOS after F8 supports Broadwell CPU...   those using 4th gen Devils Canyon have seen some voltage related issues using F9~F10 with previous gen CPU.

Sometimes optimizations made to support newer gen hardware can break existing features or functionality.  Might be wise to go back if the ability to control individual core clk speed is important to you.  (if possible).  Its really best to stay with a working BIOS unless it addresses a specific problem, security issue or adds support for hardware you need.

It is not letting me downgrade to the previous version, QFlash and the DOS based flash utility both tell me that the previous BIOS is now out of date.  To add insult to injury the update flashed both my main bios and my backup bios.

Looks like a bug. I would try to open a ticket to Gigabyte.

I'm playing with the C states and SpeedStep (took them off auto) and I think I got it working in F20.  I had them all set to auto in the previous BIOS version.

Same issue here.  There is a video from the gigabyte that guide the use of EASYTUNE. they also have that. oc 4.5 and score 1.35 and the number also was like 4.4xx and 1.2xx I also get those using Bios F20b (I think is is)  now the is a new bios that is out out go beta for improvement and new skylake chips are out. but is not seeing in the bios update inside AppCenter.  I will try to use bios for for OC later next week. BTW nice work on the new board guys.

Could I ask what settings you put to got it working? I have same issue 900mhz clocks.
