M.2 low read/write speed
« on: February 17, 2017, 09:09:40 am »
I'm not sure is there something I haven't understood about my mobo and the SSD drive.... I have the SSD installed in the M.2H slot.

The benchmark result I got is

Sequential R 729/ W 883
Random (IOPS) R 256,730 / W 80,678

The driver and the firmware are updated.

So.... ?

Greetings,
Please see page 32 of your manual.  Verify operate mode and installed devices.  Confirm you aren't trying to use the M.2 disk in this configuration.  (Note) The PCIe x4 SSD runs at x2 speed.

Installing in the M2H (lower) port is correct for a single drive.

Granted your numbers are well below the x2 speeds...  but we don't have a complete picture of your system at this point.  What about GPU...  you have 2...  the second slot might take PCIe lanes from the M.2.  I don't know this as a fact however.

What does BIOS report for the NVMe configuration?

Thanks for the reply.

I can't say if I have done something wrong. As far as I know I have installed components and cables by the guides.

SSD = M2H
Optical drive = Sata/4
HDD = Sata/5

NVMe controller information (BIOS
Bus: 41 Dev:0 Func:0
AHCI mode

I removed the second gfx card and benchmarked the drive. R 835 / W 947. So nothing changed.

CrystalDiskMark 5.2.1

Seq Q32T1 = 2150 / 939
4K Q32T1 = 746 / 343
Seq = 2014 / 940
4K = 55 / 221

Do these readings look normal?

Greetings,
My last reply didn't post for whatever reason.  One of my questions was what program are you using to benchmark...  Crystal Disk or Samsung?

Your last benchmarks look good.  4k reads are always lower because of the size of the data chunk being measured. Your drive appears to be performing as expected.

The first readings were from Samsung Magician. I think something was wrong with my PC. Maybe that's why Samsung Magician couldn't show correct speed. Soon after my previous post my OS went crazy. I couldn't even restore it. Had to format the SSD and reinstall everything. Now Samsung Magician shows the same speed as the CrystalDiskMark. Everything seems ok. Also the code on the mobo changed to A0 which had been C0 since I built this PC. Thanks for your time.

Yes, the read speeds are impressive.  I've been running RAID 0 arrays for the last 10 years.  I might try a NVMe drive on my next system.
