GA-Z97-HD3: black screen with audio working
« on: April 26, 2017, 09:54:14 am »
Hi everyone, I'm a dealer and a technician and have problems witch a customer's board.
The facts: after several months of good performance the PC has begun to crash on heavy loads (during gaming sessions).
The symptoms are: no video (black screen) with audio still playing, BSOD, and the need to restart PC.
These are the tests I've made:
- substituted video card: originally MSI GTX970X, changed with a ZOTAC GTX660. Same issues
- substituted RAM. Same issues
- substituted power supply. Same issues
- Uddated bios to F9 release. Same issues
- Disabled all power saving functions on bios (CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)).  Same issues

Problem details (in italian):

I'd guess the problem is about graphic card, but I've tried another one and the problem is the same.
Thanx for help.

Disable Fast Start Up / Ultra Fast Start Up In BIOS - If these are being controlled by App Center Utility in the OS, disable and uninstall.  Then recheck BIOS to confirm they are disabled.

Any additional information in the System Event Viewer?

Have you tried an earlier or later version of Forceware drivers?  Ensure a clean install is performed, either by using DDU or clean installation check box in Forceware installer.

Is the system being Over Clocked - Memory / CPU / GPU?

Watch voltages, cooling and temps.

Run SFC /scannow from an elevated command prompt.

Run DXDIAG from RUN command dialog - errors?

Try rolling back to an earlier build of windows 10 pre <1607
