GA-Z270XP-SLI + 7700k: no boot after disabling turbo boost

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum, hope we will get along fine

Without further ado: with every setting in BIOS set to default, setting Turbo Boost to "Disabled" results in the PC not booting. It will not even let me enter BIOS again, just gets stuck on the splash screen. I managed to restore the optimized defaults by long-pressing the power button, but I still can't disable the turbo and boot to windows. Really hope to get some adivce here, am considering RMA...

I decided to post here after having my ticket hanging on the official GA support platform for a week open and without an answer. I heard GA support is the best but am starting to doubt it.

Here are my specs:

Motherboard:   GA-Z270XP-SLI (1.0)
BIOS Ver:      F4
VGA:         GA GTX 1070 G1 GAMING
CPU:         Intel Core i7-7700K
OS:         Win 8.1 64-bit
RAM:      Kingston HyperX Fury 2666 (running on 2133) 2x8, dual cha
Power Supply:   CORSAIR RM1000x 80 PLUS GOLD

Try:
-CLR_CMOS jumper.  Power should be disconnected, battery remains installed.  Retest.

Since this board does not have BIOS switches, the following methods can be used to invoke the back up BIOS.

Method#1:
1. Shut off the power supply using the switch on the back of the PSU, wait 10-15 seconds.
2. Press and hold the case Power On switch, then while still holding turn on the power supply from the switch on the rear.
3. Still holding the case power on switch, the board will start, once it does release the case power on switch and shut off the power supply via the switch on the read of the unit. (Do the latter two parts as quickly as you can once the board starts)
4. The board will shut down.
5. Turn the power supply back on using the switch on the rear of the unit.
6. Turn on the motherboard by pressing the case power on button.

Method#2
1. Shut your PC down
2. Hold the power button until the PC starts and shuts down again
3. Press the power button again, your backup BIOS should kick in now and should re-flash the main BIOS if there's anything wrong with it.

Method #3:
1. Shut your PC down
2. Hold the power AND the reset button for about 10 sec, than release.
3. Backup BIOS should kick in anytime soon now.

If the suggestions above fail to help, remove all components except CPU, Fan and 1 stick of RAM.  Attempt CLR_CMOS again and retest.

Thanks for such a quick reply.. I didn't express myself right: I managed to successfully reflash the BIOS (using the method #2 btw) and then it booted normally and all is fine. The problem is that with TURBO BOOST off, the PC won´t boot.

Thanks for the reply and I'm glad you got the problem resolved.

This issue has to do with the CPU, Memory and BIOS.  Its likely you wouldn't see this issue if you were using a different BIOS rev or had different memory.

You have a K series CPU.  I know some people feel they have greater control over OC by disabling TB in BIOS.  I don't bother and have not researched pros/cons/benefits of this.  F4 includes vcore tweaks that help 7th gen CPU's run at slightly lower voltage.  Many have complained how high it was at default without OC.  Disabling TB in this BIOS rev might be an actual bug but is more likely a problem related to the BIOS and how its managing power to the CPU and memory.  I'm just guessing since you are seeing this as POST failure.  Might be related to timing as well.  Pure speculation on my part.

Yeah, so basically the only thing I can do is wait and hope they correct that in the next BIOS update.. I could live with it, but it just bugs me, as one expects things to work, and this seems like a rather basic thing, also, gigabyte keeps ignoring my ticket :/
Also, the mobo model seems very little popular. Almost no info on it from other buyers.

Its a budget minded SLI / CrossFire platform targeting those who want 2-3 GPU's without breaking the bank.  I'm a fan of the Ultra Durable product line.

Yeah, the ultra durable features got me convinced, hope it really lasts longer.
