Hi guys,
Problem simple jet annoying: GA-Z270X K5 + Sapphire Radeon RX 480 8GB = GPU not working in PCIe x16 slot.
Updated GA-Z270X K5 bios to F6 - still the same.
With previous setup:
MSI Z68A-GD80/B3 (MS-7672)
Intel i7-3770k
4x4gb ddr3
Sapphire Radeon RX 480 8GB
Chieftech 650W psu
Current setup:
Gigabyte GA-Z270X Gaming K5 (rev 1.0)
Intel i7-7700k
G. Skill DDR4-2800 2x16GB CL14
Sapphire Radeon RX 480 8GB
Chieftech 650W psu
Z68 supports it like nothing and new expensive and revolutionary Z270 fails - wtf?!

No display when installed and connected to monitor?
Drivers won't install?
I get error...
I have tried the following troubleshooting steps with (results)...
I am running windows ?? version...??
I have the 6 pin aux power connector attached (gotta ask)
Thanks

Hi,
Ofcourse, in more detail:
* While GPU in the PCIe x16 slot:
1. No outpot from the GPU ports.
2. No devides found in the Windows Device managed (while display connected trough the display port output from the motherboard) - GPU seated and 6pin power connected - 100% sure.
3. Have tried different variations of connecting the output cables for display (HDMI, DP).
* Drivers installed fine. Nothing else to add - checked with Gigabyte APP Center (B17.0630.1).
* Running genuine Windows 10 Pro x64 (v1703).
* I have a clean install of Windows 10 Pro using installation media created with Windows 10 media creator (Microsoft genuine download). Re-set BIOS settings -> tried -> Updated BIOS from F4 to F6 -> tried. No result, same behaviour. Every time the GPU is seated in the PCIe x16 slot the GPU is not listed in the device manager (no "unknown devices" also). Every time it is seated in the x8 or x4 slot. Everything working fine. Have tried to install the driver package for RX480 - result in getting an error message saying that no compatible hardware found on the machine.
* GPU power is connected - actually ALL the power connectors are connected. I checked 10+ times since I spent half day under my office desk trying to figure out what could be causing the issue. Double-checked everything according to the MB manual provided in the package.
Anything else you would need?

New board and CPU is def PCIe 3.0 compatible. And I see you were running it in the Z68 rig with a PCIe 3.0 compatible CPU as well. With power connected it runs in a x8 slot but not x16.
Stop here and test your x16 slot with another GPU (any) Do you get display output during POST/Boot? If that works, proceed.
You have no other cards installed, right?
In BIOS, look under MIT (Miscellaneous) if my memory serves... set the Gen mode from Auto to Gen3. Also ensure first display device is set to PCIe not OnBoard.
Check with Sapphire to see if a upgraded BIOS for the GPU exists.

Allright, finally got the opportunity to check with a
MSI NX8600gt (td512ez/d2)
- same behavior. Posts/works on x8, does not post/work in x16.
No other (second) GPU-s were installed during the troubleshoot.
In BIOS I didn't find "Gen mode option" you described - Googled, no result?! In the BIOS I had the option ("Peripherals" -> "Initial Display Output") to "PCIe 1 slot" - nothing. I also tried all the other options, noting different.
Side note: Till now I have experienced network controller failures twice. Dev. manager shows a fault - restart doesn't help. Disable/enable doesn't help. Randomly starts working again at some point. I am certain it's nothing to do with the connection itself since other devices work fine trough the same LAN cable - have tested.
Taking it all in count, can we assume it could be a faulty motherboard (factory defect)?

Hello,
The PCI-E lanes for the GFX slots (x16) are linked directly to the CPU so if there is an issue with the CPU socket pins it can fail to work. Take the CPU out and check all the pins to make sure nothing is bent, the pins are very small so look carefully.

GA-Z170X-UD5,Core i5-6600K,16 GIG,3200 ram ,2 X Corsair 240GB SATA III SSD, 500 gig HD,7 ult 64\, Rx-480 8gig The above is my rig and that card works fine so one your slot is bad or you have bent pins at this point I would think.

Couldn't detect any pin damage so went decided to go for the warranty. Thank's for the tips!
