GA-EP45-UD3P with 8gb RAM Wont boot
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:22:01 am »
I just rebuilt my system using this MB (v1.6 and latest bios). My old MSI board allowed me to use GSkill (2x2gb) and OCZ (2x2gb) together in dual DDR2 mode for a total of 8GB in W7 64. When I try to use all 4 sticks in this MB, I get to the LOGO screen but cant access the BIOS. The PC reboots in about 5 seconds in a loop back to the Logo screen and reboot etc. If I use the OCZ RAM in either slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4....machine boots and works. Same with Gskill...boots in 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. When I try to put in all 4 at same time, it wont get past the logo screen.

Like I said, my older MSI MB (MS-7350) allowed me to use all four of these at the same time and ran W7 64 with all 8 GBs just fine.

What is the problem? What can I do to make this work? Can I mix brands with this board?

The GSkill is 5-5-5-15 1.8v
The OCZ is 5-4-4-15 2.1v

Like I said tho, my MSI board ran both of these at the same time with no errors in W7-64

Make sure that the voltage for the memory is sufficient if you are filling all the slots.

So, I have it on AUTO now. If I put both in, set it to 2.1v? Using the OCZ sticks (otherwise system will hang) then put in the other GSKILL and try to boot it? What about any other voltage setting. I read somewhere about a MCH setting too.

Put your up  MCH +0.2...............You might have had luck running mixed memory on your other board, but i'm pretty sure the Gigabyte don't like it so if the ram for your g skill asks for 1.8v and your ocz 2.1. Then I think you are asking for problems. Pushing the G skill to 2.1v might be way to much but not for the ocz. Why didn't you just get the same ram?
